I simply do not see anything "plenty sharp" taken at F2 or faster. It's alright but nothing special. Stopped down it looks fine but then I would not buy a large 1.4 lens and shoot it at F4-F8 all the time. I think this particular lens really needs to perform as well as the Samyang 85 1.4 between the critical f-stops of 1.4 - 2.8 and I'm just not seeing it yet myself. As you say though, the lens may prove to be better then what we are seeing once it finds itself in the hands of competent photographers....Show more →
+1
I was hoping that Samyang would do what they did on their 85/1.4 design and optimize their 35/1.4 for f1.4. Doesn't look so.
* very good, momentarily even splendid image quality in the frame centre,
* good image quality on the edge, even on full frame,
* low lateral chromatic aberration,
* moderate distortion,
* splendidly corrected astigmatism,
* the smallest vignetting in the 1.4/35 class lenses,
* decent work against bright light,
* very good price/quality ratio.
Cons:
* visible longitudinal chromatic aberration,
* noticeable coma

The written review is new, but the pictures aren't. I still see the same thing when I examine the pictures. The lens is pretty soft at f/1.4 and f/2 and I don't care much for the bokeh. In that way it is quite different from the Samyang 85 which excels wide open being reasonably sharp with excellent bokeh.
I don't see much point in buying an f1.4 lens that isn't sharp until f4 or so. I did have some hopes here, but looks like I'm sticking to my Sigma 30mm f1.4.
I find the sharpness pretty acceptable wide open even for bit larger prints. Tested the demo version of the lens briefly and the build quality and manual focusing feels like superb. Would choose this lens any day compared to most modern plastic-fantastic lenses like EF 35/2. Now I just need to decide will I sell a kidney and get the ZE version or save it and get the Samyang.

Looks good to me. Not really enough info yet to make a decision to buy or not buy the lens. Not sure how people can pass judgment so quickly.
The Rokinon version is now listed on the big A as well. Out of stock of course, but 1-3 weeks for shipping times. I am very interested to see a review from one of us as opposed to the Internet Superstars.

Fast wide angle lenses are actuallu more to manufacture, so the price is about right.
Makes sense but, at least for me, once I pay that amount, build quality and materials used becomes more of a factor. Perhaps this lens is built using higher quality materials (vs the 85) but somehow I doubt it.
