For sure not the sharpest lens on earth, low contrast, difficult to hit the focus, but for a 3-element single-coated lens it renders quite nicely and it is almost impossible to provoke purple fringing.

Great colors, cputeq! You make the kit lens look pretty good like this.
Thanks. I'm still trying to work out a workflow since I'm only working with JPEGs right now - I really wish LR 3.5 would hurry up and be issued with 5N support, as the RAWs (from what I've seen from RPP, which is a total PITA to work with) look much better.
I'm also trying to finalize a tweak to my sharpening - I'm losing a bit of acuity when I upload, and I'm not sure if it's the process of uploading through FM/Flickr/whatever that's doing it, or my output sharpening needs to be done in CS 5 instead of LR3's output sharpening - my photos look sharper on my screen than from either Flickr or FM, even resized to the upload resolution.
the problem is, if I try to compensate from LR3 (setting sharpen for screen to "high" or even "normal" from "low'), it has an oversharpened look. I'm thinking this will require a slightly oversharpened image from CS 5 to get the "right" look when uploaded.
