I'm testing out the 7artisans 7.5mm Fisheye. Snagged one as a low-cost fisheye option for my a6400. I own the Rokinon 8mm for my Fuji cameras, and the Rokinon is definitely the better lens, but the 7artisans can produce nice images at the right settings. Focus is very finicky, which is bizarre for a fisheye, but if you focus correctly, it's reasonably sharp to the edges of the frame when stopped down. Decentering does seem to be a bit of an issue with the lens, though. My first copy was abysmal, and was massively soft on the right edge and sharp everywhere else. The replacement I received today is definitely better, but is a bit weaker on the left edge. However, given the very low cost, I can forgive this a bit on my current copy (couldn't on my first one).
Some shots today. All but the second one also have been partially defished using the fisheye-hemi plugin.
I took my one day old A6400 to photograph some Spring migrants at the Magee Marsh Wilde life area near Toledo, Ohio.
Coming from A9, I have to say that the AF is OK but not great. I found many misfocused images in a burst even with stationary birds ( AF-C, Hi FPS). I used both Silent and mechanical Shutters and got the same amount of OOF images. However, I am really impressed with the IQ of this little camera. Simply put (same bird at the same distance): A6400 with the bare 100-400 lens has better IQ than A9 with 100-400+1.4TC, and A6400 with 100-400+1.4TC has significantly better IQ than A9 with 100-400+2XTC.
Thanks Roberto (a.k.a. "Birdie") for the help, much appreciated.
