I am finding it is a real challenge for me to photograph in high wind and rain without backlighting. The camera just sees through that stuff. What is the trick? Nex 6 Minolta MD Zoom 35-70
You really need mist or visible evidence of the wind, e. I have done decades of bushwalking and love the rain, but apart from special times its often just dull in output. Shooting in rain is pretty poor all round.
Older films like Velvia did mist well, IMO, so maybe look for more open vistas obviously affected by the atmospherics. Also you get fabulous closeups with water drops, wet wood and barks, overall I much prefer to washed out sunny scenes. Much better in wilderness too, underexpose a little. Just after rain but with overcast is excellent, the air is still full of vapour and the camera stays dry.
Philip very nice and moody images. Looks like you figured out how to use the lens. The corners on the building look sharp at F8. What is the final verdict regarding the lens?

@ ebookman; I was thinking about photographing in the rain and I agree with Philip that for landscapes it almost always turns out rather dull. But in the city it can be challenging.
I am think about reflections in puddles, compositions with umbrellas etc. Think about James Dean in the rain in New York.
@ Peire; Nice photographs of streetcars, they are really nice to travel in in Lissabon. It's fun, also because they didn't modernize them to much.
Here are some compositions in overcast light, according to Bernd and Hilla Becher from the so called "German school" the best light for architectural/industrial photography. No distraction by shadows or romantic lighting but overall light to concentrate on the subject and composition.

Sir Fish, I am so missing my CY35-70. Really thinking about re-aquiring, even though I like the Minolta analog... Your image is kind of tipping me over the edge here.
