Today I was playing a bit. I took the NEX-7 with my Pentax 645 lenses mounted with Mirex T/S to Canon mount and then Speedbooster to e-mount. Heavy backlight at around 11 local summer time let the colors of the foreground appear nearly black while the background was in dust. Then i played in Lightroom to recover colors in a pleasing way. Any comments are appreciated.
First one quite easy. Pentax 645 FA300/5.6 @f5.6 1/2000s (standing on a due to traffic swinging Autobahn brigde) and one degree tilt downward. Around 90% crop because of vignetting (due to speed booster).
Pentax 645 FA75/2.8@f8 1/1000s and about 3 degree tilt downwards. No vignetting. Plays well on the NEX.
Pentax 645 FA35/3.5@f8 1/1000s and about 5 degree tilt downwards. Maybe in this pic tilt made sense to have everything in focus. No vignetting. Plays well on the NEX.
Pentax 645 FA75/2.8@f11 1/1000s and no tilt.
BTW: The mountains in the background are caled the "seven mountains" (even though I think they are nine). The story goes that when in old times giants were digging the Rhine valley they dumped the content of their shovels there. That's how the seven mountains originated.
Enjoy
Stefan
PS: In Lightroom they look less noisy. Comes with export to jpeg.
PPS: Fixed by use of NeatImage and Photoshop to StepSharpen.
PPPS: Greens reduced a bit like MCO_970 suggested in Post No 8 on this page
Uhoh, esp. the last one is a stunning view. That spot has so much potential for amazing pictures with a great skyscape going behind it.
I know what you mean about the sharpness not always showing up. The stuff in the distance that I see never seems as washed out to my eyes as the camera depicts it.
To me they are pushed just a bit too far in the distance, to where the greens are looking too painted and bright green. I have a tendancy to do this myself, and have this conversation with myself all the time, so I am not hacking on you by any means. I wonder if you can leave the green a bit darker and more natural looking? It may not work any better though, sometimes these huge DR pics are hard to work with for sure.
Lots of nice stuff on the last page, but I particularly liked Ronny's last one, Michiel's second windowdressing pic, and uhoh's last shot with the 28 cron.
A couple today from the American Museum of Natural History, all with the CV 40/1.4:
First day out with the new FD Lens Turbo! Very well made, nice & snug compared to my cheapo FD adapters. Not quite seeing the sharpness boost in the centre, am seeing the blue dot in the brighter ones (roughly selecting a feathered circle and reducing the blue saturation a bit is crude but works to an extent!). Edge sharpness is better than anticipated.
Most of these with the FDn 50/1.4 at around f2.8-4. Would have gone faster but I was often at 1/4000 - time to consider an ISO100 NEX or an A3000 (or remember that I had an ND filter in the bag, lol)?! I like the pseudo-FF look! :-) A bit of tweaking in ACR (major highlight reduction to restore skies etc, contrast & shadows boost, vignette). Some had minor crops, but #1, #3 & #4 definitely are not.
