I'm betting it'll work well. You can already see aliasing in the focus zone with the LCD as it is, especially if you crank up the in-camera sharpening. I've been using that as a make shift focus peaking feature with pretty accurate results. Adding more pronounced color will make it much easier.

Just an FYI as I don't know if many are interested in this lens, but just saw Amazon has 10 of the 18-200 E Mount OSS lens listed in stock for $799 each.

Not the cheapest lens by any means, and perhaps a little big (though surprisingly only weights about 1lb) for a camera with a form factor like the NEX, but I ordered one, thinking it could provide some good versatility and longer focal length options, in addition to a kit with some MF alt glass.

Perhaps I can replace the 18-55 with this lens. I enjoy fast MF primes but there are times when a nice stablized AF zoom could be handy.

I've been curious to give one a try and they were always out of stock, or only retailers wanting $899+ had them so I was in no hurry. Saw amazon had them in stock so figured worth a try. Most reports say the optics are pretty decent so fingers crossed.

I think it could be a great lens to throw into the bag along with some of my other glass when on vacation etc, where you never know if maybe you'll want to shoot some video clips or need a long lens etc... Price seems a bit steep for what it is but we'll see

The results don't show your problems. I bet it's a learning curve. Did you have the sunny weather setting for the lcd? You have an lcd protector - I don't use one.

Well, these are the best of the series but some missed the mark on focusing. I'm assuming it's only a learning curve issue but surveying other users. I don't have an LCD protector but notice it get smudgy real easily compared to my SLR. So, just looking for tips and advice.

Thanks!

Bob, first and foremost, your pictures are lovely. Here is what I can suggest.

I needed to rethink my PP when moving over from my 5D II to my NEX. Your colours with the NEX seem a bit "overcooked" compared to what I see form you with your 5D II

Secondly, yes, pixel peeping shows noise at base ISO (200). The way to get rid of it without sacrificing iQ is masking in LR (around the 22-25 mark for me)

Focusing: I have many fewer mis-focused shots with my NEX-ZM 35C than with my 5DII-ZE50 (same focal length). I do it without thinking, but, now that you raise the question, I go to think through what I do, and it is actually not quite the same. On the 5DI, in the VF, I focus at a "zone" of stuff. With the NEX, I look for lines rather than a zone, because it is easy to see if te line in in-focus or not. But the result is there, I think.

Hope this helps. Though, again, your Kuikenhof pictures hardly need any help. Gorgeous place...

This works like a charm for manual focusing:

Thank you all. The NEXviewer seems interesting! I'll have to take a closer look at that. Philippe, believe it or not the colors at the Keukenhof were that bright and these have not had color adjustment! Maybe I over exposed a bit. Masking is something I do even with my 5DII and have used it here as well. However, thanks for noting the differences between the 5D II and the NEX. I'm looking forward to continuing and so far I love the quality for compactness. In fact, it doesn't appear that much is lost for the convenience of the small package.

I love this forum!

I'm a big fan of my Z-Finder for manual focusing on the 5d2, as soon as I can stop buying lenses - I'm getting a viewfinder for the Nex as well.

http://www.lcdvf.com/

I can focus when the Z is on without using the LCD zoom. With the sweet LCD on the Nex, this should make manual focusing - especially in bright light - a breeze.

You should take a look at that "nexviewer" thingy. It folds down much more compactly than any LCD loupe and adds minimal extra bulk to the camera.

Thanks sebboh! I think it has a perfect size for the NEX. It is very small and light (I have the black version, the chrome version is heavy). A perfect match for the NEX (maybe not pricewise).

Cornerfix looks like it worked really well. Wonder if it could have success on the 21mm as well ??

CaptureOne finally supports NEX now as well, so with their LLC profiles one could probably not need Cornerfix anymore and have a more intergrated workflow.

I personally don't find Cornerfix too bad though because you can batch process, and given I've been already converting my NEX raw's to the digital negative format as I didn't have a processer that could open them as is, its not really much extra effort.

C1 being all in one though I am looking forward to trying out. Wonder if they have a new demo of the 6.2 version yet

Nice Bob! That lens is performing quite nicely on the NEX. I really like number 1 and 2.
