@Jacob D, thanks for the kind words. The location is Zucotti Park during Occupy Wall Street, last week.

Lovely shots, everyone. I really should browse this thread more often.

Anyway, haven't contributed much lately, but here are some B/W shots from a walk yesterday evening. NEX-C3 + Sigma 30.

Nice series Jaakko, they deserve larger versions being posted here.
Even more impressive since they're @ ISO 1600, 800, 3200, & 3200 respectively.

Very nice Jaako. My favorite was the bench. Nicely controlled DOF.

Here's something different. A decommissioned nuclear reactor not far from my city.

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8033/8018341700_2758f655ce_b.jpg

I don't know what it is, but I cannot process this in a way that it doesn't look like a painting (not really what I wanted). I ran into this not long ago with a shot of Mt. Shasta I took at sunset. It was the same lens (CV 35/2.5) and also using a CPL. Is this just a bad combination? Is using a CPL for sunset shots a bad idea? There is no tone mapping or any HDR effects applied yet looks that way.

Here's the OOC image.

Here's one more, this time with the CV 90.

Thanks for the kind comments, ken.vs.ryu, Lightshow, Jacob D.

It was dark and gloomy outside, so I had to push the ISO and underexpose the shots to prevent shake. The NEX files take it surprisingly well, though, and B/W is very forgiving in that sense. I processed the images using Silver Efex.

Jacob D, your last image in the nuclear reactor series is excellent. I like the texture and light/shadows on the weathered towers.

Hi all
I'm new to this forum and not even near to be as good as most of you however im learning.
I use the Nex5N and Nex7 and use a UAV to fly the cameras for airial photos. I mostly use the 16mm up to 40mm flying. Autofocus is good but not needed. So far i have only used the kit lenses (16mm and 18-55mm) however they are..hm.. no good regarding most aspects. Corner sharpness is horrible.
I have tested the SIGMA 30/2.8 EX and it is much better (and really inexpensive)
I planning on getting the SIGMA 19 EX als if I cant find anyting better.

The question:
I am looking good, fairly light, weight lenses 8 to 40mm that has sharp corners. Its a big plus if the lens is shorter then 70mm (all in all with adapter if needed) in length to fit the hitech cameraholder in the UAV
Cost: Less then 800Euro, the cheaper the better..
Please advise.
Thanks
Fredrik

Are you looking for ONE lens between 8-40mm (a huge range!), or a set of lenses? If you're looking for a set, I'd probably go with the Sigma 19, either the Zuiko or Rokkor 24/2.8 manual SLR lenses, and the Contax G 45 if that's not too long. It'll be tough to find anything with sharp corners wider than the 19mm without going to fairly large SLR lenses. The Voigtlander 12 has okay corners, but you'll see noticeable color shifting.

TY Jim and UhOh! I have been waiting for the aspens to change for that truck shot... Really love Fall in Colorado.

OhOh - I always enjoy the pony pics. What kind of pony? Can't tell if he's a small warmblood or just a really nice little quarter pony. Nice looking, whatever he is.

Seb - nice misty trees!

One more Fall shot, mist rising in the aspens. 5N + ZA24

http://www.redwrench.com/2012/ZA24/_DSC0079-Edit.jpg

And just a simple pet pic I've enjoyed on my desktop this week, 5n + 50/1.8 wide open. Taking Douglas' suggestion from way back that the 50 OSS is probably a good lens for B&W with it's vanilla bokeh.

He's an Austrian Warmblood which we are lucky to be able to lease for my daughter He's worth a few blocks in several Detroit neighborhoods (not to dis Detroit, which has so many layers, now and in the day)

Your fall shots have me gearing up for the next weather break
