thanks, thats where I have thought of the contax 45
I don have a minolta MD 50mm 1.4 and its pretty sharp all over with nice colours and it only set me back $100
yeah, the g 45 is my goto landscape lens.
if i had to pick any 50ish lens to be my allround lens it would be the rokkor MC PG 50/1.4 (shame it's so much larger than either the sonnar or the g 45). haven't used either version of the MD, so i'm not certain how they compare to the MC, but a test phillip linked a while ago seems to indicate that the MC was the best of minolta's 50/1.4 lenses.

thanks, i actually think it is better for b&w than color. the coatings on it are primitive (or in some cases nonexistent), which tends to make the colors a little off. shot in b&w with a heavy curve applied can give it a very classic film type of look. b&w conversion can also tone down some of the bokeh craziness from the lens.
I actually really love the Jupiter-3's colors: they're soft and muted in a unique, pleasing way. I do find I need to apply less contrast than I might normally do, or the colors do go a bit crazy. Some examples:

i think you mean this comparison, MC 50/1.4 and MC 58/1.2 turned in the best performance, he didn't test a MD 50/1.4 with 55mm filter though, which is optically different from the 49mm version.
Always lurking, reading and viewing... rarely posting. A bad habit of mine.
Great photos all around in here as usual. Glad to see the Nex thread stay so busy. I finally ended my deadlock situation, unable for the longest time to choose an upgrade for my Nex-3. Got a 5n a few weeks ago as the best available compromise (for me). And then, of course, along came the Nex-6 leaks, ticking all my boxes. Oh well.
Anyway... a few pics. Have not had any real photo ops lately, so these are merely random shots while getting to know the 5n.
Edit: Oh, and now I want a Jupiter. GAS truly is never ending.

Thanks Phillip, good read... seems what I have is pretty damn good

perhaps i should just get the all three versions and satisfy my curiousity, it's not like they cost much...
As it happens a E49 version of the MD will arrive tomorrow, and i already own a E55 MD and the MC, i hope to find some time to compare them against a Canon nFD 50/1.4 and my G45 on the Nex 7.
Some pictures from my recent trip to wales. I'm not 100% sure about the lenses, so treat the captions with some scepticism.
sweet! i'm half tempted to send you one of my 58/1.4s, but i know they won't really compete with the 50/1.4s. which E49 version did you get early or late?

this shot is awesome, but what happened to the back of the car?
Fender bender? Hah. It got lost a bit while straightening the horizon - I thought about bringing it in a little more so that it's not so obvious, but I wanted to keep some of the distant buildings in the shot as well.

Derek, cool shots in the mist. I liked the Hydrant but not sure how I feel about the purplish cast. Also the goats are cool
thanks! there was too much mixed lighting going on with that hydrant (2 types of street lights, car headlights, and last remnants of sun/moon light), probably should convert to b&w (saturation is already at -50 i believe).
the goat herd travels around SF eating fire hazards.
Don't often rely on the AF in the nightclubs, but the 16mm can perform wonders indoors. I congratulate sony for being so bold in their choice of a wide angle prime to introduce the system.
