@Andrew,
Love the color from those shots. Do you have any experience of the Contax G 35mm F2 compared to the 35-70? I am considering both of these lenses now. Also, any tips on PP for the Nex 5n with Contax G?

I'm quite surprised with this comment about the 70-300. My copy at least is not at all soft wide open and it gets better if I stop down a little, so either your copy was not very good or I've been lucky.

Xavier,

Thanks for letting me know, I will go down to the local store and test some copies.

Boris, Jacob, thank you!

Gobears, the Contax G 35mm F2.0 is very nice on the NEX series, I recommend it wholeheartily. Remember that there are a lot of choices in the 35mm range though

Phillippe, Picture 1 of Hatsumoto is outstanding!

NEX 7 + LA-EA1 + Sony 35mm F1.8 SAM - el budgeto lens. Has a surprisingly high Mag ratio!

Sorry for the test shot quality but I thought it might be interesting to people.

Goolez, very nice set. You and some others bring out some special crispness from the G45, very inspiring. Need to use that lens much more than I do.

Thank you both.

wfrank - I know what you mean, I don't use the 45/2 nearly as much either!

Now that I have used the 7 for a couple of quick shoots, I am amazed at how almost totally different from the 5N it feels.
First, the heft. 5N is a definite lightweight, not different, when fitted with a Contax G 28, from a "supercompact", such as the Canon G. It even feels a bit smaller/lighter than Fuji X-100 or Leica X-1. Not so with the 7, which more like a smaller DSLR, a tad more compact and more dense.
Then the user interface. As most users, I have grown very fond of the 5N's touchscreen, even though I didn't think

Thanks for this post.
It seems to me there are two different schools:
1. You are serious about NEX and treat it as a serious camera
2. It's a supporting tool to your "serious" camera - a DSLR.
Even if you are school 1. you still might have a "more serious" NEX and a "quicker" NEX.
As of today it would be NEX-7 and NEX-5N.
Also as of today school 2. only makes sense if you go for a FF camera with
a big resolution/DR advantage over NEX-7. I guess there is only one - Nikon 800E
(if you shoot birds or football players, you obviously are school 3).
As far as Leica 19R, I think it might be great, but not really better than Zeiss 21,
a bit smaller, but also much more expensive (haven't seen one for less than $3K).
I think the wide angle will be covered well enough by the upcoming G-zoom.
If it's as good as Sony 16-50 f2.8 lens, there is no need to go Leica 19 path IMO.
If it's not that good, I'll go with the well known Zeiss 21.
I have a Zeiss 18 ZK and I think it's very good on NEX. And it will always be good,
even on NEX-7. Is your Zeiss 18 ZM giving you problems on NEX-7?

I love my NEX-7, but I have no idea what to do about the short end, even with the Sony 16mm, it messes up the corners a bit mushy at F5.6.

I picked up a NEX C3 to address the short end.

I'm seriously debating picking up the Olympus OM-D and a Panasonic 7-14mm to address all my short end needs. Just have to deal with only shooting ISO100.

Of course in that case I would have to sell my Zeiss 21mm F2.8 zf.2. Which would be painful. But I only seem to use that lens when I travel, never in NYC.

My impression is that rez-wise, both the CV 15 and the zm18 are good--at least at f/8---on the nex-7. I know I have seen impressive shots from the 15 + 7, and I'm hoping once philber has finished playing with the kit lens, he will give us the skiiny on the 18mm.

But please correct me.

Uhoh, you've posted a lot of great mountainous/snowish shots lately - I'm impressed. This cought my eye specifically which is on top of most in my eyes. Awesome!

Havent brought my camera much, lots of clouds here now but it's getting lighter now. Here's a double post from a Zeiss thread, G21/NEX5N.

........but I can not understand how you would want to go to a cam that will not allow you to use that lens. It would be nice to have a NEX7, but it is expensive and does not have a decent WA option, while the 5N has. I would pass on the 7 and wait for things to come ( be it Sony or something else ).

Regards, Stefan

Stefan,

Like many of us, I have been struggling with whether to purchase a NEX 7 because of the WA lens issue. After going back and forth in my mind, I have decided to keep my NEX 5N for my WA lenses in addition to purchasing a NEX 7. The cost of the 5N and EVF is less than one new ZM lens and it never hurts to have a back up camera for long trips and otherwise, especially one that is so compact and easy to pack. This way I believe I have the best of both worlds until someday we get a camera with a NEX 7 body that will also perform well with WA lenses.

From Philippe's post that you quoted:

Some truly great images in this thread - had a blast going through it the last half hour or so.

Have been really enjoying my 5n the last couple months. Here are a few of my favorites so far:

TY, sir

That's a sad shot, since those old trees are dying out by the thousands and they are the cornerstone of the high altitude ecosystem. Whitebarks, killed by MPB, who thrive in warmer climate

Off topic question.... Where have you guys/girls bought your spare batteries from? I wanted to get OEM but they are super pricey. Are there any proven, third party alternatives?
