@r.gil

both shots impressive. the girl intensity is great.

one trick with hip shooting is 7fps with slight focus adjustment while it goes. The finger focus guide on the nokton is perfect for this.

You ever see the movie Z?

best hip shooting ever, hehe.

whatever you get, can't wait to see results.

And for "The buggle players" a nikon 16-35 and d700

Unless you really want the speed of the Nokton I think the Skopar is tough to beat for the money. Its optically a very nice lens and still quite compact and affordable

I've got the 35 Biogon C as well, which is a better lens, and does hold up better in the corners, especially on my M8 and I'm sure will have a bigger difference still on my soon to have M9. HOWEVER, as great as the Biogon is, I really don't think on the 1.5x crop your really going to see that much corner performance difference between them so it makes it sort of a null issue.

If your thinking of moving up to a DRF or (ff nex ??) then Biogon or Zeiss in general would be a good investment but if your not using a system to take advantage of it and don't plan to in the future the CV stuff is great for the money

That said, I really wasn't a huge fan of the 35 1.4 as it was just too soft wide open for me, and with too much color fringing as well.

Performed pretty well stopped down, but why spend extra cash for a f1.4 if your going to shoot it at f2 or smaller

Distortion is pretty pronouced as well. Not a deal breaker but compared a/b with the Zeiss it was pretty dramatic.

I do a lot of stitched pano's so it was something of an issue for me

Great size/weight on the NEX though

Thanks! I've been neglecting it since I started a new business that isn't photography related, so I need to update it with some more current stuff.

another nokton 35mm f/1.4 shot today:

http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5135/5533596926_ce66734a66_b.jpg

I did not even check my focus on this shot, however, as douglass noted could sometimes be the case, the edges are soft on this one. Not terribly so, but noticeable in crops.

same location

Canon 100 F/2 LTM sun just above frame:

a 50 year old lens outresolves the nex sensor--or close to it.

@edgars: love the hairy pony! very nice textures there.

Agreed. That looks incredible. The Contax G 21 may be my ticket for a standard-ish prime for shooting B&W in 1:1 ratio.

+4 on that shot edgars!

douglas - just give in and get the full contax g lineup.

the contax g 35mm is growing on me for people shots, still not crazy about it for landscape, and am generally unhappy with it for closeup and wide open shots.

Yeah, no kidding. Unfortunately, I have no real justification for the 45, because I already have 3 50mm rangefinder lenses, and the Nokton 50/1.5 is very good wide open. 45mm is still to long for me to use as my everyday lens. I'm waiting to see what the Sony/Zeiss 24mm looks like before I bite on anything else below 30mm.

What I keep on reading is the 45 is the best G lens ever.

Yeah, it is one of the best. It is just a no mans land for me personally, as far as focal length on NEX is concerned.

p.s. I'm not sure why my last post was in bold

edit: corrected.

i was wondering about that.

here's a leftover from the chicago blizzard that i don't think i ever posted. it's taken with the contax g 45 and seriously worked over in post much more than usual for me (i just couldn't get it to come out right). it was shot at iso 3200, boosted 3 stops, has a lot of noise reduction, and then two rounds of added grain after downsizing.

I agree with the assessment of the Contax G21. A pity that I couldn' correct it (yet), because it is a fabulous lens. Clearly the 45 is in the same league, but, as I have the ZM 35 and 45, I have not purchased it yet. I will try a 90mm this week end (a Leica) and see how that focal length feels on my NEX (I am normally not much of a telephoto guy), and, if it agrees with me, I will get a G 90mm, another splendid lens.

Thank you for your kind words, guys! I took the picture on my way to work. the picture was processed in "Scarab Darkroom" - added sharpness and contrast. I intend to spend more time with this lens. I have gathered myself close to full lineup of contax G and canon FD L primes (no superlong ones). Now I need to decide which ones to keep.

Because after "sebboh wrote" there is no closing bold tag.
