My friends on a snowy day in Denver over the weekend with the 5N and ZM 50/1.5. It was about 15 degrees F, and I had no problems, although the EVF fogged up, making focusing a little more tricky than usual. If I remember correctly, this was at around f1.8 with a polarizer attached.
Hey Douglas, finally a shot from the Sonnar. Looking good!
Is there any chance you might compare the S-Z 24 with the SEL 18-55 @ 24mm? I know this is an odd request, and I'm probably the only one who wants to see it but I'm really curious to know how they compare.

Jacob, this is a perfect valid question and I would love to do it, however I do not have this 18-55 zoom.
I would however like to make a small comment. Due to the pixel size of the Nex 7 there will be diffraction starting at f/5.6. In an ideal situation we need a lens that has it's top performance at f/4.
And of course we like it very sharp and contrasty all over the frame at this aperture.
So this is definitely not possible with the 18-55 zoom. But I suspect that regarding the centre image and at closer distance this lens will perform good.
Herb, by any chance have you compared the SZ24 to other Zeiss lenses of the same focal length? The Contrast and 3D effect of the ContaxG 28/2.8 Biogon is fairly strong, I was wonder how this lens compared.

Jabberwockt, I only compared the Sony E ZA 24 with the Zeiss ZM 25 Biogon on the Nex 5n and Nex 7. At close distance and infinity. Some relevant info I posted last weeks in this thread.
I have both. I can post comparison photos from 5N, but it will likely be tomorrow as it's very windy and cold today (I'm feeling wimpy).

I have to say, I come away with a different conclusion than the author. At least from f4-f8, the Zeiss looks significantly better than the kit in centers and corners. Also, I find the Zeiss sharper and higher contrast than the Canon 35 1.4 in the centers (though noticeably worse in the corners).
This guy is often using f/16 and higher for his landscape work. Because he is coming from a 4x5 field camera. I can tell you now that you can use any lens on the Nex 7 at these apertures. Your pictures will be all very soft and look alike.
In the other review he sets his camera to autofocus to judge lens sharpness. Well you can just throw away such reviews without even looking.
I am sorry to say but these are the kind of "reviews" that raises more questions than giving proper insight.
