Has anybody played with SAL-Z lenses on the NEX ? I was thinking about the SAL 24F20Z or the SAL 135F18Z - with the new adapter they should work pretty well on the NEX.

Well then, based on the above enlightened comments from all you, my NEX system might look like ZM 18, which I have, Elmar 24 (the sample I shot with today was a delight, I will post tomorrow), a ZM 35 f:2.0, and my Leica R 60mm Makro. That, incidentally, gives me two pair of lenses, each with its own rendering...
Which means I let go of Contax 28, 45 and 90. Truly superior glass, but I am not going to have 7 lenses with me, and these FLs are fine on FF, but a bit awqward on crop.

I see that Steve Huff says the rendering of the 24 elmar is similar to that of the superb elmarit 24/2.8.
Very interesting, but hard for me to put down that amount of money for a 36mm equiv. on NEX with a max. aperture of only 3.8

I'm already looking forward to the shots you're going to make with it Philippe
The examples I find on the web are mostly shot with an M8 or 9, but the rendering seems to be really nice!

@philber and boris. The elmarit 28 pre-asph sure looks nice, and nice to hear about the 24 elmar.

I do love the 28 summicron Have not had a chance to shoot it outdoors much as yet. She caught me a few minutes later :

These 12mm shots were taken with nex-5. I bought 5n recently and have a couple shots with it. I can e-mail you a full size one. It looks like pbase is having problems so it is not showing all my photos.

as to contrast: eassier to add than remove, no?

Sounds like a good choice. But I would probably keep the Contax 45. I've seen so many really great images shot with this lens.

By the way what Lloyd writes in his blog about the Leica 21SEM and 24 Elmar lenses confirms my experience:
"I’m going to go out on a limb here (a nice sturdy one) and repeat what I might not have said quite so explicitly before: the Leica 21mm ƒ/3.4 Super-Elmar-M ASPH might be the best wide angle lens ever produced at Leica, and might also be the best 21mm available today. The 24mm ƒ/3.8 Elmar-M is in the same league also."

I agree with you, Boris, about the Contax 45. I would extend that to the 90 as well. But that involves having and carrying more lenses, and, if the "game" is to buy all the truly great lenses I can find, I will need a couple of sherpas for my NEX, let alone my DSLR...:-)

OTOH, shooting with the now-legendary Berlin-FM group has shown me that I get my best results by not changing lenses and doing a series of shots, rather than picking "the" lens for each shot. So there is some value for me in keeping the number of lenses down, because, if I have them, I might just use them...:-)

Let me think over your wise advice...

would be very interesing to see these lenses shooting something like your beautiful paris zm18 shot, philippe

get up on the rooftops, would you?

as to the 21 elmar---who is shooting that lens and can we see some samples? Is it really working to the edges w/o colorshift on the 5n?

Charlie, I actually intend today to compare a Leica 35 on NEX to a Zeiss 50 on FF. That will help me critallize my thoughts. As to the "rooftops", there are no roofs there. Only a great rotating tourist wheel...:-)

Philippe, another idea: what about skipping the 35mm focal length and just use 18ZM, 24Elmar, 45G and 60RMacro?

From your last series the first two images (Contax 28 and 24 Elmar) are clearly better than the other two images, but I see no significant difference between the first and second image.

Hi,

A few from a local school holiday show, with the FD 85mm f1.2 L up in front. All shot at f1.2, using medium focus peaking. The mixed stage/spot lighting is a killer on getting the best exposure, but LR3.6 comes into play to help out.

A bit confused here. I've been reading here Biogons won't work so well on the Nex, the other designs will. But In the begining of this thread there are beautiful shots with a Zeiss 25 Biogon on a Nex 5n...
So...what?

Well, like I said earlier my intention was to order a NEX-5n with a ZM 25/2.8.
I already received the Kipon adapter for it, but things changed:

I stumbled upon a second hand leica X1. It was being sold locally with the grip, for about half the new price! As I always liked what I saw from that camera and its lens I just had to buy it. This way I can try it without having to pay the jackpot.
I had a sigma DP2 in the past, so I think I can cope with the slowness.

So no NEX for me... for now

I've also seen excellent shots with the biogon 25/2.8, even on the older nex-5.
There's a magenta color cast, but resolution seems to be good enough in the corners. So it's correctable with cornerfix.

@ Herb, great shot..so where's the comparo between ZM 25 and Z 24?

@Uhoh, I think I prefer your images from 28 cron to your previous images with other lenses. It seems the cron has that very high micro contrast and sharpness.

@ Philipe, thank you for the testing but at those apertures l could only see tiny differences. I rate the contax 28 and 24 Elmar the best of the lot. I'm still waiting for someone to thoroughly review the new Zeiss 24. Like you, I just dont believe it if the Zeiss guys produce a lemon this time..

The Zeiss Biogon 25 ZM is not really a classic Biogon design (it is probably something between Distagon and Biogon designs, but in my opinion closer to the Distagon). I think it is mainly a marketing decision to name this lens Biogon.

The reviews say nothing. The images should speak for themselves...
