Wfrank, excellent shot! About the vintage preset, its called "wet chrome". A free preset that I got when googling for them. However, I did toned down the contrast values & saturation quite a bit. I'll post into details when time permits.
Guys, cmoon.. this is getting dpreview like. Chill it out and take a breeze.
A few from this weekend around town... most with Canon FD 85mm f/1.2.....
Anybody have this lens as well as the Rokkor 58mm f/1.2? I love the 85mmm but at times I wish I had a shorter FL - what do you think (if you have both)?
Great portraits, Msterjack! I am on the verge of selling this lovely lens as I need moeny for other, but I do love it! I have looked for the 58/1.2 but have not acquired one yet. I know that standard f1.2s are hard pressed to achieve the same result.
one from my FD 85L on nex-3:

These are great. I have tried using my 90mm on the NEX and it's just a bit too long for spontaneous shooting. I could see using it for an impromptu headshot/portrait session, but maybe with pretty high SS set.
Wfrank - great shot of the bldg. at iso 3200.
MasterJack - I especially like the three in color; but that's just me.
Edgars- super cute kid and I like the portrait rendering of that lens.
Corposant- great twilight beach shot.
Here's one from today - ZM 35-C; as Sebboh knows, we've been having a very late summer in San Francisco:
i believe within this thread there exists 2-3 pgs of off, on chatter and images using the cv 50mm 2.5. if you happen to know where, would you give me a page number, I have searched and... thanks joanlvh

Thanks all for the kind words. I sure am enjoying my new camera. I may eventually spring for a Minolta Rokkoer 58mm f/1.2 or Canon FD 55 f1.2... any thoughts on either lens?

John
the canon is sharper the rokkor has better bokeh imho.
It's a combination that's really a ton of fun to shoot with. That extreme blurring towards the corners isn't the CV, it's an artifact of close focusing with the hawk's. I kinda like it. Here's a couple of shots demonstrating the CV under more normal conditions.
My take: the corners look decent enough, and if my technique was better, they could look better still (these were handheld, under fading light, without enough dof). In worst-case scenarios like the sky shot, you will still see some color shift on the edges, but it's rare. That was the one shot all afternoon where I really noticed it.
Paul, those are some great examples of the kit lens (18-55, correct?). I think that it's strongest between 28-35mm.
Alwang, fun stuff with the 15 and Hawk's. I think I will get that lens.
I recently picked up the CV 12/5.6. For fun/creative shooting I can see it being a great lens. It's hard to believe how small it is for a 12mm FL! Ultimately I want something for wide landscapes, and the corners aren't good enough on it, plus a little too much distortion for my taste. I'm going to sell the 12.
Here's a quick snap from this morning, I screwed up the comp :/
This was "wide open" at 5.6 near the MFD. I was a little surprised that it didn't have more DOF.

cool shot, i'd be curious to see how that lens performs super close up with the hawk's helicoid adapter.
+1 on the close ups... also wondering how the 12 compares to the 15mm in the corners sharpness wise. I seem to recall reading around here that the 12mm is better than the 15mm in regards to color shift but I don't recall anything about sharpness. It's probably the next lens that I want to get for my 5N but if the 15mm is sharper all around then I might get that one instead. Any comments and more samples from both lenses are greatly appreciated BTW, Alwang, nice shots with the 15mm
I believe the 15 has better corner sharpness and more color shift... maybe I should hold onto the 12 until I have the 15 in my hands.
If anyone with the 15 wants to do a simple test for color shift to compare vs. the 12, why don't we try what Douglas suggested in another thread - put a white tissue over the lens, point at the sky, meter +2 EV, and focus to infinity. Auto white balance the result using the center of the frame. Start at f4 and repeat at full stops through f11. I will do the same with the 12. (sorry this probably should have went on the 5N Wides thread)
