OK - first shots with the new 5N - went out and braved the blowing wind and sand at Karekare Beach on Aucklands West Coast...

Really enjoying these lenses - looking to get a normal to fit in between now....

Lovely set, Sosua! My preference goes to the 3 B&W. On my monitor, the greens of the others look a bit "overcooked".

Sam, good to see some pictures from beautiful NZ.

I have some similar beach shots from Tahunanui in Nelson, albeit with Hasselblad/Contax.

Philber; I am on the fence about them greens, there is a slightly different hue in NZ to some of the foliage. I have some Xpan slides from there that look over cooked as well, though they are as natural as can be.

Nice Sosua. The greens look good to me.

I'm thinking about picking up the nex-5N or the leica x1, despite all the bad comments it gets. (I like the images I see from the X1.)
If I go for the NEX, I'm not sure which lens to start with. I'm thinking a ZM25/2.8 of ZM35/2, or maybe a contax G 28/2.8.

Which adapter do you guys use for this last lens? Is the focussing smooth?

Thanks all - will check my greens - I do sometimes move them a touch toward blue as opposed to yellow in Lightroom, depending on which import preset setting I used.

They looked OK on my home monitor, but seeing them on my work laptop now they do look a little more cooked.

Its nearing summer here, but didn't feel like it on that day!

from a very dark place. Basically converted in lr3, resized.

These are an example of finding the adaptor difficult to focus.

Also, as seen, not enough dof, but required by the light and lackluster nex flash...still they work for me..the 35/1.2 may be on order though. ...but I'm waiting to see if the zeiss appears anytime soon. .

Can anyone comment on the difference between the voigtlander heliar 12/5.6 V1 and V2. I've really like the samples that I've seen from the VII on a 5N and especially like the "stars" that lens produces stopped down. I don't need the M-coupling though (will use this on my NEX-5N and whatever comes after) and the older ones are cheaper. I would like to use filters once in a while. Any commentary on optical performance and handling differences between the two would be greatly appreciated! Sorry for the aside but I figured with all of the alt experience with the Nex-5N on this thread, this would be the place to ask.

I don't own the Heliar 12 but I have wasted my share of time reading about it anywhere I can.

I believe the optics are identical between the newer M mount and the LTM version. It appears to be the case with all of the CV lenses. The LTM is smaller, lighter, and does not have a built in hood. The LTM's have a focus lever rather than the thumb tab that the M mounts sport.

I passed on a couple of these now at a decent price, I'm kicking myself over it a bit. If you can find a used one for ~$500 I think you'd be wise to buy it.

Jacob... thanks for the clarification. My understanding is that the LTM is also able to use filters but with an adapter. Is this correct? Also, is the screw mount lens more or less adaptable than the Leica-M lens (in terms of register distance). I like my N5N but I'm not married to Sony so if someone puts out a good mirrorless FF that's "affordable" I'd be tempted to jump (and 12mm would be different but still fun on FF). Thanks for your insight.

Yes, I forgot to add that fact - the LTM requires an adapter to use filters. I'm not sure why it is exactly. Voigtlander seems to be all over the map when it comes to their hood and filter designs.

As far as adaptability, the LTM is more versatile I guess, in that it can be mounted on any Leica rangefinder. I don't think there is any significant difference in register distance, in fact I don't think there is any difference. Maybe a "Leica Person" can confirm that. I have one LTM mount CV (the 21/4) and you have to look very closely to even notice that it's an LTM adapted to M. I wouldn't worry about what might happen in the future, if you want the lens, go for it! If you don't like it I will buy it from you for ~$500

My quick contribution... NEX-5N + my grandfathers meyer primoplan 58/1.9 that's got lots of oil on the aperture blades. This lens was used to take pictures of my mom when she was in diapers... and now I'm using it to take pictures of my friends 4 month-old . Nostalgia aside, I can't wait for my Kipon Contax-G adapter... the zeiss 45/2 is burning a hole in my pocket

very nice character on that primoplan.

even though the windows are always quite smeared, scuffed, and foggy, i can never resist taking shots out plane windows. here's a couple with the contax g 45/2:

yeah, i think this forum will probably be responsible for my financial downfall. at least i can resell old manual focus lenses without a loss unlike new autofocus lenses...

It's not always easy to find but Stephen Gandy's web pages offer a wealth of info;

http://cameraquest.com/voigtlen.htm
"New M mount 12/5.6 has same optics as previous version Screw Mount 12/5.6"
but... "In use the new Voigtlander M mount 12/5.6 handles better than the screw mount version,"

Further down he says pretty much the same thing for the 15mm

This chart is also useful
