Thanks, Peire! I agree with your view of it as a XIXth century look. Maybe because everything is the same as it was after the Tuileries Palace burned down in 1870...
I could actually go for the same shot on a clear and sunny day, but I am not sure it would be "better"...
Two with the Contax G 90mm and 5N. Although it seems to be a magnificent lens, using the adapter for focussing is (for me at least) a rather unpleasant experience.
Regarding focusing w G90, since DOF is down to less than ~10mm at around MFD my trick is to stop turning the ring and instead move camera slight forward/backward when composition is set. It's *very* shaky with a magnified screen, but that's of course not due to the camera or adapter, rather the FL of 90mm.
I've mentioned this to Hawks with out any response, but here's my idea for a good Contax G adapter.
Hawks should make a helicoid adapter similar to their M mount one, but have it lock the lens focus at infinity, so the helicoid itself is the means of focusing, rather than the gritty Contax lens helicoid. They'd probably have to engineer it with a little give, so it would focus past infinity, but that'd be ok with me. If they could extend the helicoid out far enough, they might even be able to bring in the mfd a bit.
Funny, I mailed them the other day asking if they have any plans for a Contax G adapter. No response (as of yet). Actually more to mimic the behaviour of the Leica adapter which I tried the other day (courtesy of kosmoskatten) together with the EVF. Quite impressive experience, and for sure that construction is all about enabling close-up shots well below MFD.
Yeah, I need to experiment more with using the camera (distance from subject) to help with the focus. Thanks for your kind words alwang and wfrank. douglasf13, that is a really good idea - I wish Hawks would listen to you...
I don't have the lens in front of me, but, if I remember correctly, the barrel of the Contax G 90 extends out quite a bit when focused close up, so I have a feeling that my helicoid adapter idea would only work well with the other G lenses. You could still use the 90 at infinity, but it probably would have a pretty long mfd with my adapter idea.
Happy Turkey day everyone. Here are a couple more shots from earlier this week at the temple. The random country slash industrial backdrop makes this place even more surreal. 5N + CV 35/2.5

Two very nice shots, partitura. And yes, focusing a Contax G lens via a NEX adapter isn't the greatest, but I love the results. And, like you and wfrank, using the 90mm at MFD is not the easiest either. This is why for closeups, I have the 60mm Leica R Makro, a fantastic and not hugely expensive lens with a different rendering from the G series. This all has led me to use a very light tripod with NEX much more often than I would with my 5DII. Not only because it gets me extra sharpness in "tricky" situations, but also because a very light tripod can be carried around easly and deployed where a larger one would definitely be denied.
