I really like shooting with the LCD. I always shoot with it flipped out, waist level. Touching the spot you want to zoom for manual focus, or to select the focus point on auto focus, really works well. I don't think I'd use the viewfinder even if it was included, except when it's too bright out.

i applied my standard curves adjustment, vignetting, and a multistep sharpening/downsizing in PS. the aluminum body just implies cheap construction (and higher likelyhood of sample variation/aging poorly) the optical design is exactly the same as the old zeiss. contrast and saturation are surprisingly ok though colors are similar to in accuracy to uncoated lenses. the lens is decently sharp in the center even wide open at short to medium distances. at infinity it isn't as good with a fair amount of CA and corners that never get that sharp. i'll post some crops at some point, though not of this picture as it is at iso 1600 and won't give a very representative idea of sharpness....Show more →
it's not terribly sharp, but certainly usable wide open. it gets a fair bit sharper as you stop down, i'm afraid i don't have any stopped down shots at base iso that i remember the aperture to show crops from right now. maybe in a few days.
Really hate to post after sebboh and his jupiter. Thanks for the crops, it's definitively soft but still, full images becomes art. I'd add a tad more contrast/clarity to the image of your supercute daughter though.
And Gary, the last one really wants me wanna go Sony 16/2.8. I think I'll order one.
Well here we go with todays catch. Contax G 45/2. It's really sharp when you nail it but it (still) takes some effort. I really like the colors, on par or better than a good L on a 5D2.

here's a couple crops from the jupiter-3 wide open on a NEX-3. first one is at about .7m:
