I think the 5N is an undersestimated camera, because it was on release, both overshadowed by the tremendous specifications of the NEX 7 and thought to tbe pretty much the same ans a C3, just as a 5 was pretty much the same as a 3.
Now that the 7 is likely to be delayed, and that the gap with the C3 is apparent, this thread shows that the 5N is a very serious still camera when fitted with really good glass and in the proper hands.
I, too, bought as a stopgap on my way to the 7 once my GF appropriated my C3, and it displays every day how much better it is than a stopgap product.

Two images from today. Zeiss Biogon 28/2.8 wide open. From the same spot, first shadowside then sunny side - the sun is low here now.

EDIT: ehrm, the second one is not 1024, must have done some cropping late.

This is my first post here and finally read through all the 96 pages,
Great job every one,
at the same time that im having a hard time choosing between 5n and 7 i also dont know if i should get a double lens kit or body only(for about 230$ difference),ive gotta fairly good collection of super taks and contax g 28 and 90(looking for a 45).Im kinda afraid that if i get the lens kit then the combination of AF and not having to change lenses all the time would make me lazy and i would just use 18-55...

I'd get a 5N while you can. Due to the floods in Thailand it looks like the 7 will be delayed, possibly for a while. SInce you already have some nice lenses, the NEX series is a no brainer for you. Get yourself some adapters and you're good to go.

Karen, I agree with najibs (nice shot with that lovely ZM 50,BTW!). The 5N is a very nice camera in its own right. It would have been greeted with lots more ooooh! and aaaah! if not for the simultaneous announcement of the 7, and the fact that the differences with the cheaper C3 weren't immediately apparent.
5N with G28 and G9O is enough to warm the heart of any photographer, and there is little doubt in my mind that, after trying that out, the IQ of the kit won't do it for you any more.

Thanks guys,
yeah i think im gonna get the 5n asap, but apparently it hasnt hit the aussie market yet...and when its gonna come in mid november its gonna be around 1000 bucks body only...so grey market is the way to go(~800$ for 2 kit lens)seriously camera prices in Australia are getting ridiculous, sometimes you save more than half buying from Hong Kong!
Still undecided on the kit lenses though,i recon the 18-55 is gonna come in handy every now and then that i wanna capture a bit of film, and as i dont really have anything on the wider side the 16mm is better than nothing, but still not quite sure. )
By the way do you guys know any good grey market online store?!"T Dimension" is outta stock and all of the other sites that im trying charge ~80$ for P&S to Australia(VS 25$ on T Dimension).
Thank you,

Thanks michael and bigkidneys!

Snapsy, really like the first one. Is the dreamy feel lens rendering or some PP?

Two more BWs from today with the Contax B 28/2.8. It is very sharp and one thing I like about 28mm is that it is "what you see", no more no less. I like that

- First one an old building, the lens captures a lot, note for instance the shadow from the bench in the low overcast sun.
- Second one may look like an HDR, but it is not. It's a simple ACR Recovery and then a tribute to the high DR of the 5N sensor.

Two very good shots IMHO, wfrank! The second, in particular, is absolutely great! I love the use of B&W, the sky, the dynamics. Did you try cropping both sides to eliminate the buildings?

Thanks. Just b+w conversion, curve adjustments and selective sharpening; didn't mess with the OOF areas or add any blur. I love your second shot btw. What's the history behind that building?

Thanks morty, philber and snapsy, much appreciated.

philber, thanks as always. I am a fan of squares but I think it's too tight here. As it was I could not step back, the photo is taken through an opening in a fence.

snapsy, this is an office building close to a part of southern downtown Stockholm that is being torn down to build apartments. So no drama there.

Edit: philber, just saw your new images. Nice captures - and you like squares too
