I can put the 35 1.4 ai-s on a tripod and use live-view and it still does not really "pop" as I would like it to. The guy that posted raw-files from the 35 1.4 af-s in a package had a few files that did impress me though,
Yeah, focus on AF camera is extremely hard, I only can get a few better pictures out of lots of tring..
The 35 1.4 ai-s is a very fine lens especially on FX. I'll never get rid of my mine.
Manual focus on it is really pleasant. Yes it's not be perfect compared to modern lenses, but it has a unique feel that i really like. I bought another copy new 2 years ago and I'm really glad i did.
With a little bit of practice, you can easily focus at 1.4 without live-view.

I put a pre-order in with Abe's of Maine... hopefully they come in stock soon! going to see which one i'll prefer to keep... 24 1.4G & Sigma 50 1.4 or just the 35 1.4G
I am currently favoring the 35 1.4G since it's a great focal length, plus it'd save me money too!

Hey HugoD
Do you just collect lenses because they are "pleasant" and have a "unique feel" or do you actually take pictures with them?
I'm not collecting lenses (i wish i could) and unfortunately not taking as much pics as i would like to. But I must admit that have a personal preference over manual primes when shooting subject where focus speed isn't mandatory. It just feel "right" when focusing between two points when trying to get the right amount of foreground blur using Dof preview.
I would probably pick the new 35 1.4 any day over the ai-s one for a wedding (Need to try it first). But for my current needs, when need that specific focal length, it's adequate. At least for now.
Sorry if my first comment was irrelevant to the current thread

Same response from amazon, so frustrating, but I am hoping to get one around that date range as I did not place order until 5th. Oct...
