how about some links to full size picks.
I can shrink a little Olympus P&S camera shot to this size, and make it look incredible.
Would like some full size shots to judge a little. (sharpness, cornering, moire, distortion, etc.)
^^ not just their price... its also the features and IQ that really drops the 50G out of the game. Nikon really needs to come out with a killer 50 1.2g as rumored.
I never once mentioned anything about price, only the use of ED glass. The price of the lens doesn't equate to it using ED glass. Heck the crappy 55-200 (not the VR one) that sells for a whopping $175 new uses ED glass. I'm trying to find a correlation between recent lenses in the standard to short telephoto range and their use of ED glass. Even going back to previous af-d or ai/ais lenses, I don't see any ED glass in the 35-85mm f/1.4 primes. I'm guessing Nikon doesn't believe this focal length range needs ED glass to perform well. And in looking at Canon primes as well, they don't use any of their fluorite glass or other UD glass in the 35L, the 50L, or the 85L.

The samples from nfoto at nikongear is not too impressing. He is comparing the 35 1.4 ai-s and the 35 1.4 af-s.
It's impressing to me, 35 AIS is a great lens but it need quite some effort to make it right (I have one and it's a pain trying on DSLRs), the AF, resolution and BOKEH @ F1.4 make a lot difference.
I just switched over to Nikon from canon and this lens is the reason I finally decided to make the switch I just loved my 35L too much to come over and have nothing that comes close.
Now a story that made me a little sick to my stomach, I recently placed a preorder for this lens with Abe's of Maine and I got a call that I needed to call (something about my order) I was thinking some scam to try and get me to buy something else I wasn't going to call back but I got a call saying my order was ready to ship out but needed to be finalized.
I called back spoke to the rep that left me the message he proceeds to tell me well I have your order packed and ready to go!! I asked you sure it's the 35 1.4G he says yes and proceeds to try and sell me UV filters and insurance but no go so he tells me ok ( he was a little frustrated) So I say will I get my tracking# tonight or tomorrow? He says well you know this is a preorder and we should be getting it in within the next week or two but I can't guarantee??
I tell him you told me it was packed and ready to ship he says no it is ready to be finalized now we just need to get it in and ship it out have a nice day
When are these going to start shipping here in the states?!?!?

To be clearer, I meant no one should expect a $400 lens to be equal to a $2000 lens... I've owned, and sold, the 50mm 1.4G. It's not that great of a lens. I preferred the 35mm 1.8, to be honest.

I can put the 35 1.4 ai-s on a tripod and use live-view and it still does not really "pop" as I would like it to. The guy that posted raw-files from the 35 1.4 af-s in a package had a few files that did impress me though,

How come Canada is getting the their stock and we get nothing
As much as I want one and I'm in the states, Canada is usually the country that get's things last around here. We can let our North American cousins get something first for a while
