Just sharing some info here about the Elmarit-R 28mm that may be of use for others.
I have ended up with 2 copies of this lens, (2nd copy bought to bottom out some performance issues).
Anyway the 1st copy is serial starting 362 and is e55 3 cam variant, the 2nd copy is serial starting 370 and is e55 with ROM.
The later serial has a significantly smaller rear shroud compared to the earlier copy.
I have been able to use the later copy with Leitax adapter on my 5D with focus right up to infinity stop without having to remove the shroud, on the earlier copy I had to remove the shroud for mirror clearence.
If anyones interested the one with serial starting 362 will be on the B&S later today.
Both lenses have the same performance and my issue with slightly soft edges at f2.8 are down to adapter tuning.

Mine is a 3 cam with serial # 366xxxx but it has the same smaller shroud as the ROM with serial # 370xxxx. So not all 3 cams have the large shroud.

Ah, and I though with this info we'd be able to tell the shroud type from the serial range.
Maybe not then.
At a guess, I'd say the new shroud can still be attributed to a particular serial range but it may not be documented. But it's not as clear cut as simply being 3 cam vs ROM.
