Wow - this came so totally out of the blue but is so absolutely completely right.
What a great bit of news to start the day on, can't wipe the smile of my face
If pre-focusing is possible and works well this is practically the only camera I would ever need. I'm going to send them a note in their "first impressions" form telling them exactly that. And to put a physical ISO dial on it
Now lets hope for a 21mm or 24mm equiv. version as well
Just as an aside, i noticed that their site is currently offline due to technical issues - too much trafic? that should show that they've hit the nail on the head!
Wonder what the AF speed is going to be like on this thing? Are we going to see p&s speed or Panny G1 speed. Hopefully the latter.
Another thing, for such a ground breaking camera, for such a real camera, did they have to call it a 'finepix X100'? Cummon Fuji, how about something that will be remembered as a classic, something memorable and punchy.

My completely uneducated guess is somewhere between $999 - $1399.
My guesstimate of the price is much lower than yours, Tariq. Around 800$ is where they "should" peg it. Above 1K is M4/3 et al price, where interchangeable lenses are a massive sales argument compared to fixed lens, save for a small group of IQ-oholics.
with a name like "fuji finepix X100', i assume they're not going for the elitist market - which i'm hoping/assuming will also reflect in their pricing.
{i'm with monsieur philber on the pricing guess. early adopter price of $900, settling down to $800 within a few months.}

Ah but quality is also a massive price argument. just look at leica
This is the best digital camera concept in the last five years! Of course, there are many hurdles to jump before it qualifies as a street-shooter, most importantly shutter lag: cameras both digital and analog can suffer shutter lag even when focus is manual or AF-preset. Great aperture ring... pity it turns the wrong way. The lens design is crazy, at least for a camera: one element looks like a Schmidt corrector more often seen in a reflector telescope with spherical mirror. Unlike the X1, this camera has a serious technology heavyweight behind it. Go, Fujifilm!
What I like most, is that the aperture and focusing rings are in their proper position (the aperture ring closer to the body, the focusing in the front) and the aperture rotates in the proper direction (widest aperture on the right). If the focusing ring also rotates a la Nikkor (closest distance to the right) I can see this camera in my future, replacing the Canon S90. One reason I didn't manage to get used to a Leica was the location of the controls on the lens. This one seems to be perfect. A rangefinder version of my Nikon F2A. I wouldn't mind if it came with interchangeable lenses, but even if it doesn't I love it.
I wonder if this camera will eventually evolve into a new camera system for Fuji in the future. How good would it be to have this camera with a interchangeable lens mount and a nice set of Fujinon lenses!
Maybe Fuji thought they would see how well this camera sells before investing in a entire camera system.
The X100 does look very interesting, and I'm sure it will sell well. Shame it won't be available till early next year though.

This is a tough call by Fuji. Imagine how bummed the early buyers would be if they found out that their camera was all a sudden (maybe 1 year later) available with the ability to mount a whole bunch of lenses! That would seriously be tough to swallow.
Not if it was more expensive . I'm hoping they do a Sigma and bring out a 50mm equivelent version, I'm a 50mm guy, 35mm never did anything for me which is shame given how georgous this camera is.
