Haha, only at the last shot did I read the 300 2.0 . How much did this lens set you back How hard is it to focus wide open? I'm referring to the shot above the bird photo.
Clearly the 300 2.0 IF ED AIS is the brightest 300 in the world. While I still say my F3T is still brighter and bigger focusing the "light pig" my nick name is a pleasure with the silky smooth knurled focusing ring. In 1984 the Nikkor listed at $29,000 US dollars and it came with it's own matched TC-14C. Im not gotinsay how much I paid for it.But I will say I was just offerd $12,000 and I turned it down.
I got to work. I'll post more later.
I posted some other other shots with the lens to give it a sense of proportion.
Any way you slice it the Nikkor 300 2.) is a heck of a hunk of glass. While I often hand hold it for extremly shorts periods. It's best used on the wimberly or resting on a car/post/ girlfriends shoulders. Several years ago I hurt my wrist shooting eagles robing osprey of fish with a Pentax 400 2.8 IF ED while I was in aroow. And ever since than my left wrist hasnt been quite right. Since getting the Nikkor 300 2.O IF ED AIS it hasnt gotten any better.
I just feel really privldged to own it and use it often if not everyday.
Im more than happy to answer any questions about the lens if I can . And yes I do let people borrow it on occasion.
If they ever made a VR II 300 2.0 AF, I don't care if it weight 20lb and cost 20k, I'd have to figure out how to do it cause that would be a sweet basketball lens.
Im with you on Nikon making a new Nikkor 300 2.0 IF-ED AFS Nano VR2 .The introduction of the D3s (video) the Nikkor bevomes a powerfull tool for creative expression. For a time I had a Canon 5D2 and the a converter to fit on my Nikkor AIS glass. Very cool. But I got sick of the converter and .. even though the darkside has cookies, at my heart and soul, Im Nikon man.
I got to go back to work. Hope you guys are enjoying the images. And if you want to borrow the Nikkor 300 2.0 IF ED AIS it''s no problem , we both like to fly first class .
It's really good to see images from one of these with a DSLR, I think most of them have been converted for cinema use. Groovy shots you've created with it, lots of subject background separation.
