I also love my 80-200 f4 - sharp, great bokeh, quick and easy to use and a great companion to the D200

Funny thing about the 50-135 f/3.5 AI-s Leighton. In my recollection I was the first person who brought that lens to the thread but somehow it's become "Leighton's lens..." That is probably understandable given how much you love the lens and how fine the work is you produce with it. I was impressed when I first mounted it February, 2011, the eleventh manual focus lens I'd bought at the time, but I was into my buying frenzy that year so

Yea, I remember you turning me on to the 50-135 and also the 135mm 2.8 QC. For this, I'm eternally grateful!

I promise I wont push the Fuji on anyone. I'll just let the product sell itself.

I wonder how the Tokina would hold up to the Nikkor?

Hello everyone.

I'd like to put together an FX kit that is strictly for MF lenses and I'm looking for camera recommendations. Given that this is for MF only, I don't need the latest AF capabilities, crazy-high ISO (although decent would be nice), and super-high MPs. I'm leaning towards a used D700 as I like the layout, love the ergonomics, and have seen it used in this thread quite a bit with great success. I'd also consider the D600/10 but the ergos and build aren't as nice and the price is a little higher.

I loved my D600 when I had it for 2 reasons, the simplicity of use and the 24mp sensor. BUT, if you like how the D700 feels over the D600 better, than I would go with the D700, both great cameras for MF lenses.

These shots were taken seconds before a torrential cloudburst with high winds then hail. It was so dark that I shot the interior at ISO 3200, 1/5 sec. at f/8 hand held and braced against a post—so not really sharp.

I've always liked round barns, not very practical, but interesting nonetheless. Thanks for sharing.

My keeper rate isn't very good with the 55mm SC - particularly when animals are involved and the lens is shot wide open. However, when you do nail focus then the results of the 3D effect are, to my eye, quite pleasing.

For the car buffs, a 1926 handbuilt Hispano-Suiza H6 which belongs to a friend of mine. It was not well displayed at our motor show which is why I had to filter out a lot of the background clutter. It was rated as the best car "in the world" in its heyday.

Some superb work on the last few pages, and what a classic Peter from Knysna!!

And folks, thanks for the likes and comments on the b&w conversion of the Mackinac Bridge, courtesy of Leighton's suggestion. I do stand corrected on the geography, across the bridge is the upper peninsula of Michigan, before you cross over into Canada.

And a pic with the same camera/lens combo that Jim was using 20 years ago up north. Bronica S2A, Nikkor 75 2.8 PC lens.

I've got a D700 and D3 that both work great with MF lenses. Advantage D3 is the dual slots. My D700 is gripped, so there's that, but single slot....

That's as high as my body collection goes.

Your reasoning is very sound and the D700 is a good platform to start. Also as discussed in the last two pages is using Fx lenses on the Dx. Your D500 will give additional reach with it's crop factor. i.e. the 50-135 lens as a "poor mans" 70-200. I don't think you can go wrong with the way you're thinking. /K

D700 all the way for me !!

If I was in your position then that's the choice all day long ..... what a superb camera it is still !!

Sold mine but wish I still had one .... currently on D810 & D500 best of both worlds .... but I could be tempted to buy another D700 just for the comfort of having one in case of problems!!

I really don't like the D600 .... it's too small for me ... though others seem to like it !

Not posted any MF pix for a while !!

Too depressed !! Just read the most depressing 1000 page book I think I've ever read .... modern history

So didn't get in the mood for photos .....

Anyway I put the 105mm f2.8 micro on the camera a day or two back ... shot about 8 pictures ....

'Is that it I hear you shout' ...... yep .... that's it !

An odd growth on a redcurrant bush .... apparently known colloquially as 'berry blush' (not too scientific)

First shot straight lens .....

Second shot with PN-11 for 1:1 magnification ....

Third shot of coloured spinner back to bare lens .... all on the D810

Thanks for the likes and the comments and glad to see a newcomer "Stone Photog" to this forum.

Samy the people of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan are glad to have their country back. (You're not the first to think Canada was on the other side.)

Peter love the effects of the Hispano-Suiza. Car shows are tough to shoot with all the foot traffic about. Nice job!

Todays offering is on the way to Sedona! Just before you get there you find a turn-off for Red Rock Lower and Upper roads ... so there we explored. It is such a beautiful area!!

Plenty of shade in the Arizona sun!

Lonely barn.

I want a picture of the lens Leighton... I need proof...

And for the record... you can flaunt Fuji if you feel so inclined. I was simply pulling your leg. Actually, I thought the banter over Fuji spiced up the thread for a short while. So long as Nikon manual focus lenses are in the conversation, no harm, no foul. We're learning to live with the fact these lenses work well on a great variety of cameras... witness the arrival of an Olympus yesterday. We might have to draw the line if someone mounts a Nikkor on an iPhone!

You are exactly right, it is about the glass! Here you go.

I should have dusted it off, it looks a lot better than this.

I managed to get down to the Nanaimo River yesterday and discovered that the bungee jumping (along with ziplining and other activities) is operated by a company called WildPlay Element Parks on their privately owned bridge. Not wanting to pay to get on the bridge nor to interfere with the bungee jumping operation (or get caught up in it!), yet mindful of my promise to Laura, I headed downriver and grabbed a shot of the bridge with my 20mm f/2.8 Ai-s on my D800E and processed it in Lightroom and SEP2 on my tiny hybrid laptop (Surface Pro 3). The bridge in question is the one that's further away from the camera in the image below.
