I thought I'd share a photo of my latest venture. I decided that I would like to put together a vintage stereo system, but I couldn't spend over $200. I went over, but not by much.
Scott 335R receiver, Advent Legacy III speakers, and Realistic LAB 395 turntable. It's not vintage, but I also sneaked a CD player in that I had stuck in a closet.
I picked up the receiver for $35 at a flea market. I gave it a good cleaning inside and out, checked the output voltage bias, and hooked up some speakers. All of the pots were noisy, but a little Deoxit took care of that. It sounds wonderful.
I bought the speakers from guy who specializes is refurbishing vintage speaker. This was the most expensive item at $140. He did a great job of refoaming these speakers and they are very nice sounding.
I found the turntable on Craigslist for $35. It was nasty and I gave it a good cleaning inside and out. I also had to clean out all of the old grease and regrease it. Some damping grease to the tone arm kept it from rising and falling too fast. Replacing the cartridge and needle busted my $200 limit, but I only paid $35 for the replacement. I wasn't going to spend a great deal on this old turntable, so no expensive cartridge. It works amazing well and sounds very good for what it is.
I also grabbed a set of Realistic PRO 60 headphones (made by Koss) at a garage sale for $7. I replaced the ear foam and they sound pretty good.

You make me feel guilty.
I very recently took my stereo kit, from the late 70's, to the rubbish tip for re-cycling.
Kept my Dual 504 turntable though. My copy of Pink Floyd's TDSOTM is tattered in comparision to yours.

Glad you held on to the Dual. That's a fantastic turntable. That's a brand new copy of TDSOTM. The old one is completely worn out.

Love it! I have been restoring a pair of vintage marantz receivers for a while. Love me some good stereo gear.
I would love to pick up a vintange Marantz. I looked at a few for this project, but they all fell well outside of my self-imposed budget. Please post photos of your receivers once you a finished with them.
I still have my Sherwood S-7310 stereo/dynaquad amp/tuner that I got in 1976 ($276). Still works just fine @ 40 amps per channel. The Epicure speakers I got at the same time have long since worn out. I realize that was a little "quite" for Pink Floyd, but I made do.

Couple old shots... Haven't done much in the last two years with all the health issues I have had.

Very nice, Kevin. I love the solid wood cabinets. I bet they sound great.
I have a soft spot for the “Baby marantz” receivers. The 2015 is my favorite, followed by the 2010. Not room-shaking at 15watts, but very nice sound for easy listening. An efficient speaker and you’re golden. I love them so much that I have two of them.
This is one of the guards at the Golden Temple. The colour is amazing isn't it? Don't mess with them though, they all have big swords and or daggers and spears !
Much more chill the Sikhs, despite being a warrior religion and a much more relaxed atmosphere compared to the Taj Mahal.
I have always wanted to visit after seeing it on the TV News as a child when it was attacked. At the time I presumed it was a terrorist attack but since learned that it was attacked by Government Troops.
There is a constant queue of people to visit this place of pilgrimage for the Sikh religion, from 5am to 2am every day.

Drool! They don't make them like these anymore and I was too young when they were current. Especially fond of these vintage Marantz and Sansui with their wooden sides and stuff.
To keep things moving, here's another from a recent series documenting the spring flowers lining our beach in Waikanae... captured with the 135mm f2.8 QC, a four shot, hand held pano merged in LR Classic...
I just had to go and check out the patent # visible in the pictures.
Probably one of the simplest patents I have read in a long time. Elegant solution.
If anybody is interested in the patent surrounding a flywheel, a pointer, a capacitor and string then read on. https://patentimages.storage.googleapis.com/6a/69/fe/d6998336ae9c24/US3431884.pdf
