I've been enjoying the posts recently, noticing the slowdown in posting, realizing I am partly responsible for that, and deciding to get off my keister and do something about it. So here are a few more photos from the Southern Gulf Islands in June, all courtesy of the 50-135 f/3.5 Ai-s "Leighton Lens" on the Fuji X-T2, and helped along by LR Classic and SEP 2.
I don't whether to say the Prodigal has returned or a bad penny turned up...
Last year I completely forgot the anniversary of this thread's beginning, August 22, 2010 and promised myself I'd pay a bit closer attention to that date. As I said to Samy when he inquired about the possibility of getting together this coming Monday before he flies out of San Francisco, I've been a bit preoccupied this summer. After spending a bit of time enjoying everyone's company here a few months ago I disappeared into my own personal navel gazing... good stuff but very time consuming. But like the well known groundhog, I figured I'd at least come out to take a look on this auspicious day.
I actually have taken photos from time to time and they do get out of the camera... but that is about as far as they get. I did spend some time with a friend's dog and couldn't resist this...
It's still the 21st in California so I'll drop by again on the real day... celebration or not. Thanks to everyone who has kept this thread moving along in my absence. I learned a very long time ago that while my presence was instrumental in keeping this thread alive for the first couple of year when most of my posts were added, that there is a faithful group of photographers who love these lenses enough to keep talking about them and showing off what they can do. We can't ask for more than that.
Hi all - it's the 22nd here in South Africa, so happy anniversary! It's hard to believe that 9 years have passed in such good company. This thread has been a home from home for me after I succumbed to NFMAS and I've loved every minute.
This was the first image I took with my 80-200 in 2009 which just pre dated this thread and which underlined the quality of the glass D70 (!!!) + 80-200 f4 ais

Good of you to drop in. I'm getting as bad as you for not being around, just really busy for some reason.
It's nice to know that this place is still going strong. Probably sets some sort of record on internet forums.
Aye, happy thread anniversary! I haven't picked up my camera in months; have been in a rut, work, family and everything else.
Got me worried when I switched it on and it refused to. Even after charging overnight. Turns out the battery was so flat that regular USB charging wouldn't resuscitate it. Huh. A trip to the external battery charger got it back up and running.
I do have a couple of trips coming up - this weekend to visit my brother in Kuala Lumpur, who got married and is now going to join his wife's new and indefinite posting in Paris. I've known this for some time but am not doing too well processing it, hmm.
Some time in September, I'll be heading to South Australia. It's been a killer heatwave here in Singapore and maybe a cool respite would be welcome. Gonna bring my squid jigs along and introduce Raylan to that old family tradition - catch yer own dinner!
Those of us who've been around for the long haul remember the wild and crazy days when we'd go through long stretches with a hundred posts EVERY day. The thread was flying. Those were early in the threads history, much of it focused on the time we sent Nikki around the world and everyone was posting photos taken with it. Leighton created a blog that he still maintains that can be accessed by using the WWW link at the bottom of my posts. If you missed it, you might want to check it out. Yes, those were the glory years.
But beyond the fun of sharing a lens, we discovered that we enjoyed swapping stories with one another and the foundation for this thread that seems to have secured its longevity had been laid. No doubt, the good will of the folks who show up here has meant a great deal since we've been able to chat for years without rancor. We've sometimes teased one another but that has always been in good fun. It has been pure pleasure spending time here and equally important, meeting one another face to face. In many ways that is the test of whether this whole enterprise means anything. I know from following the thread that many folks who've met here have developed friendships in what is called "in real life."
So happy anniversary... I'll even post a photo to mark the event... no big deal, just a photo... taken with the old standby 80-200 f/4.5 AI.

As I wandered around the Canadian War Memorial I noticed all these names carved in to the base.
Being a curious sort .... I decided to read the information board ... seemed to make sense to me ...
See .... the brain cells do connect sometimes ...
Using the veritable 28mm f2.8 on the D810 I shot these pix which depict (highlighted) the family name, and my in-laws family name.
Though none of these can be attributed to my family (I think) there is the name of my son J. Stokes, my name S. Stokes and my fathers name R. Stokes .... who knew !! ...
My father-in-Law was a J. Bennett also highlighted
These are not just men who were killed at the battle-grounds of WW1 ..... but they had the ignominy of never having been found, so presumed killed and missing in action(all 23,000 of them) .... Such a sorry state of affairs. And all started over a nobody Duke who got killed in Sarajevo ......
I know of no connection to Canada and these namesakes.
Happy anniversary all! Thanks for making this a fun place to hang out.
Samy and Scott, enjoying your "duelling" takes at the Air Museum. The Dayton AFM allows tripods (as noted by Laura) but it's also quite dark in there, and it appears that the DC museum has higher levels of ambient lighting as well. The Dayton AFM is definitely worth a visit.
Enjoyed the Jodhpur series, Andy, esp the people series.
Welcome pja7.
James, good to see your shots again. Enjoyed the marketplace shots.
Ken, nice work over the Columbia River Gorge. I read up on the Eagle Creek fire, sad that it was caused by humans, but as another article said, change is constant in the forest, and this will be beneficial long term.
Always enjoy the cars, Rafael, especially with your special pp sauce and lens selection.
Going a ways back, Doug, but that 8/15 Virginia Falls pic is outstanding! Love the way the angular trees and water flow in the bottom half play off each other.
Happy anniversary all! Have learnt a lot here through many of you
Unfortunately I don't have anything to share. My other Flickr account got locked as well....
But I managed to get a contact on Flickr so hopefully I'll be able ta access my old account soon.
