Colin, I was going to comment on your remark about the British Army training area on that beautiful seacoast. Was it that what you suggested or were they filming another episode of “Top Gear !”
My 10+ year old desktop PC is showing drive errors and when I booted there are only 2 icons on the screen, Windoze 10 created a new directory for itself and _erased_ all the executables.
Everything is backed up so I have lost nothing but time.
.MS support says they have been seeing a lot of this particular problem lately.
It is time for a new build, and a lot has changed in 10 years so I'm looking for hardware suggestions. I only run image processing programs, do no ray tracing, games, and no video processing.
I would really like to optimize preview speed, it takes 10 or more seconds to display large raw files.

Could be! I stopped watching that comedy program a decade ago.

I don't get to spend as much time taking photos as I'd like, but I love seeing all of the terrific photos everyone on this thread posts. Please keep posting these awesome photos!
I did get to take a trip to The Great Smoky Mountain National Park this past weekend and got to make use of my Nikon lenses. These were all made with the 24mm f/2.8 AI using a Fuji X-T2.
A quick way to get to point A is to grab a server that is coming off lease, or is being replaced with newer hardware. About 2-3 years ago I got a hex core 3.2 ghz xeon with 64gb ram win10 pro etc etc for $425. I doubt I will need more speed or power for quite some time. Just checked ebay for the model Dell T3600 which dates from late 2013 to about 2016. There are multiple xeons to choose from, quad core, hex core, or octo cores, some with win 10 pro, some refurbished - there are over 1600 listed. Might want to study up on Intel's E series xeons for turbo speeds, generation. The more cores, ram,and faster clock speeds will give you the speed you want.

Thanks for your likes and comments on my recent image posts. Here are the final three photos from my mid-June visit to Little Qualicum River, including one from each of the 85 f/1.8 HC, the 28 f/3.5 N, and the 50 f/1.4 SC, respectively.
Here's a shot with the Nikkor-H.C 28mm f/3.5, wide open.
Even though it has a boat load of field curvature and is mostly useful at f/11, I still like this lens a lot.
