I'm only seeing the link, not the photo. I guess I am not there yet
(Jack - was that taken from the "Scenic" pullout just south of Ronan?)
Yes it was. On our way to Whitefish for Christmas with family and a week of skiing,
That's beautiful, Doug. I was speed scrolling and just.stopped. It really took my breath away.

Black kites (Milvus migrans) at the island of Enoshima.
There were so many, low flying and crying out.
I don't read Japanese and thought the sign only said not to feed them...
Just found out from googling that they attack tourists, those who are holding food purchased from street vendors
Like seagulls but with killer claws?
Hi Doug, I'm just lurking overhere, count me as a stranger... but I'll kill someone to have such as „back yard” Kudos for the view and for the nice picture. Looks very nice. Please keep posting!

This is my "back yard". I know this photo is poorly/over processed - but as I learn more I can redo it. I was going to try last night, but ran our of time.
Nikon Df, ISO 320, f8, 1/00 s . 50mm f2 non-AI lens
Everyone - thank you all for the compliments on my first post!
I had started this thread awhile ago with a question about the Nikkor 24mm f2.8. I also did mention that I had the f2 version. I have read so many opinions in favor of the 2.8 vs 2 (like Bjorn), and many posts just don't give much credit. I was in the Glacier area on business today, and took the opportunity to swing by the Park. The forecast was "sunny". And yes it was, but with high, veiling clouds by late afternoon. Not the best for the long, grandeur shot that the Park is known for.
They had just opened up another section of road above Lake McDonald, so I was looking for a more intimate, shorter stream view that was less dependent on the sky to maybe check out the 24mm. This is a small section of Avalanche Creek. On my Df, with my older eyes and my Retina iMac, this looks pretty good to me. Maybe I don't need the f2.8 NC
As far as McDonald Creek goes, above the lake, it was running high but clear. The falls and cascades where just too much for me - too much agitation, and the dynamic range was huge. I found a calmer stretch . I guess I could have cropped the road out of it. I was rushing to catch the sun for the brief periods it came out.
Df with 55 F/1.2 pre-AI(wide open with Hoya 10 stop handheld).
A refurbished Z6 has arrived with a Vizelex ND throttle adapter(chose this over the FTZ). Still waiting on an ordered memory card.
Fellow member recommendations on LTM Nikkor lenses for the Z6 will be greatly appreciated-looking for a compact travel lens without the bulk.
How long would it take to finalise the sale? It took me almost 3 months for me to sell off my property; the banks, the government, then our lawyers talking to the buyer's lawyers, phew.

Stoicism I do well too. In a bit of a pickle here as well. I should have had the keys to the new home last week already, but due to an involved bank not doing what it should, everything is on hold....
....which would be fine, having 175k in my bank account and all,but I have to be out of my current home by the end of the month and time is running

Hmm These are posting very large - is the size of the represented photo on these pages proportional to the file size?
I meant to mention that last one was the 35mm f2 AIS
Thanks for looking
Doug
I think most folks have broadband internet connections but there are a few among us with slower connections which makes downloading big files problematic. It is also the case that some among us, myself included, are viewing the thread on 27" or larger monitors while some are viewing them on laptops. I have a 13" MacBook Air and occasionally view the thread on that machine and I can appreciate what a pain in the butt it is to be scrolling images left and right as well as top to bottom.
Originally we held to a maximum file size of 1000 pixels in width with exceptions for dramatic files, such as panoramas that really needed more territory. I'd usually go up to 1600 pixels in those instances. More recently file sizes have gotten bigger and I began making my normal posts 1200 pixels wide and no more than 1000 pixels high. Obviously, we have no police department on this thread so no one is going to be ticketed for posting larger files, but as a matter of courtesy I would encourage folks to think about others when sizing images for posting. Yes, some dramatic shots deserve more real estate, but not every photo that is shared here justifies such treatment.
Personally, I do not upload full size files to Flickr. I use that photo hosting site primarily to load photos on this thread, so I upload files the same size I intend to post here. I know others post larger files to Flickr. In that event, you would need to specify when you intend to load a photo on FM the size you wish to use. There will be options given to you and you simply select what you want. I do it myself because frankly, I think I'll do a better job of sizing a photo for display than Flickr will do... I may be right or wrong about that but it works for me.

I've always liked it Andy. I'm definitely one of those old fashioned folks who gets my news from credible sources like the New York Times and who doesn't much care about ANYTHING that is happening in social media. I don't care who is dating whom, who is upset at whom, what the favorite sneakers are of NBA players. With regard to politics the less said the better. Give me a good book and an interesting conversation with another human being and I'm happy. My one concession to technology is this thread AND watching Shawn James on YouTube build a cabin without power tools...
I stumbled upon Shawn James couple of months ago. Fantastic show! He now has 2 channels, the other one is more about Shawn himself and his thoughts about his project and life in general. Really humble guy!
Edited my bad spelling due to cracked smart phone screen....
Did you know that when the H2S is above a certain concentration you can no longer smell it? That's when it becomes lethal....I remember that I did get a bit worried when my chemistry professor told us about that in the lab. We used very low concentrations of course. But it was still a quite scary gas to work with...
