Luka, that watertower would look big if it were placed in a different environment. Funny how relative size can be

Buddy, Yes the odd contrast of water tower against large blank wall have been making me want to capture the feeling I get. I will probably try again to see better angle exists.

Great closeup George with the tube. I’m hoping to try a reversing ring macro this spring on some flowers.
Gary its been a long while since we saw the 50-135 that’s a nice sharp portrait.
That’s an old water tower atop what looks like more modern facade Luka. Time for some paint I think!

Interesting thing about those water towers in NY,
1. They are always wooden . Even new construction has one of those on top..
2. I have never seen one painted

There should be good reasons but I have not done my research.
I wonder Scott would know the story behind.

I have tried to capture this statue multiple times in the past, and they all went strait to garbage bin. The other day, there was an interesting light, and I had 105 on D700, so knowing it would still probably won't look any decent, I had to try. I am glad I did. At least finally the shot did not go to garbage bin. I feel like I can move on

What I was told! The wood is cedar and has been used since the late 1800’s when tall buildings started going up. Compared to steel, cedar keeps water cooler in the summer and does not allow water to freeze in the winter. It also lasts much longer than steel. The tanks create the high pressure water system used within the building. There are only a couple families in NYC make them. Politics ?!?!! Who knows.

Just a few more from my trip to the Isle of Skye

Such a wild and beautiful place.

Three are from the D810 with 28mm f2.8 Ais - classic Nikon lens

The fourth one from the D810 with 50-135mm .... another great performer

Damn this is good news. I have been missing this. Despite all the advantages that Z provides shooting MF lenses feels like a chore. I wonder if those Rokinon/Samyang UWA lenses with AE chips that cause problem with Z cameras can be fixed this way too?

I was telling Reagan last night that this gave me "green box" focus confirmation that he has been looking for on the Z6. The single point focus square in the finder turns green when in focus if you do not like to use focus peaking. Worked really well in this case combined with the low shooting angle and extension tube. I just handheld the camera, framed up the flower and when the focus

I read on another forum about I think it was Samyang was releasing a firmware update. I just glanced at the article, but may be worth searching or contacting them.

My Zeiss 50/1.4 ZF.2
would give me the aperture reading but still would not give the green box for focus
I still had to use focus peaking with it
Others on another thread seem to verify this
I believe only the Nikon lens with contacts give the green box

Nice series, especially the one from the Cullin mountains.

How is the Thorabaigh? A bit like Tallisker (one of my favourites )?

Steve,

Good to see you out shooting and contributing again.
Timely photos of my homeland in that I am making a planned, pre-dawn, trek 'up north' to Scotland tomorrow.
The 'old man' (88 years old) has been in hospital for a few weeks now. The downside is that I thought he would have been discharged and back home by now - but he hasn't. The upside is that I might have some spare time.

So, I have just thrown a couple of lenses into the bag.
I tend to fret too much about lens choice and end up taking too much kit. My new mantra is to only take 2 MF lenses.
The 24/2.8 and 50/2 made it into my bag last week. The 55/1.2 and 16/3.5 were selected for this weekend's jaunt since I have a couple of shots in mind if the weather behaves.

Colin

Well two mysteries solved, the cedar water tanks and the tripod mount on the 300mm Ai vs the AiS.

Steve I hear the drone of the "Skye Boat Song" coming from the pipers. Unique part of this planet.

Buddy glad to see you back!

Here are the Blue Angels with the Z6 and the 105mm 1.8. They were close enough for comfort. Really Noisey!!

Can you program the Z for aperture so you can control aperture in camera?

With the recent talk of lens CPU's and features on Z cameras, thought I would post this shot from yesterday morning.

I was heading out for work and saw that the last of our daffodils were backlit by the sun. My wife has been asking me to get a picture of them and time is running out. So I was thinking up close and wide, but I did not have time to get a tripod and set up for a macro shot like I probably should have.

Great to see you on the thread Buddy with some gorgeous photos, especially the young one. No doubt, life becomes very busy when a little one arrives, or so I've witnessed with friends.

Colin, love the Infrared set of images but then again, I've been enjoying most of what you've been sharing on the thread in the days I've been visiting.

I'm not enjoying the conversation about how the Z cameras are handling our much loved manual focus lenses. Yes, focus peaking sounds appealing but not having the green dot for casual shooting seems a serious loss. Not that I'm planning on taking the plunge anytime soon, but if/when I do it would likely be the Z 6... though the thought has crossed my mind that I can get a 24 megapixel sensor and a light weight body by picking up a used D750 that WILL mount my lenses without the weight and expense of an adaptor...

Here are a couple of shots taken today with the 105 f/2.5 P AI with a 20mm Vivitar extension tube attached. I forgot how much fun it is to shoot with tubes...

Hey Curtis

I have a bottle of whiskey that I think you would love a taste of

22 year old Longmorn bottled by a newish distillery at Ardnamurchan the furthest west point of the British mainland

I am guessing the price would be in the region of $250 as it is a bit rare (about 300 bottles from the cask) !!

I will get some pix of it possibly tomorrow and post .... just for you of course !!

Chris

The Torabhaig distillery is not in production yet.

Or at least not ready for a release as yet. The first bottles they reckon will be in 2021 or 2022

So I have no judgement as yet as to taste .... your Talisker is good to go for a while yet with no Island competition.

On a CPU’d lens that is the only way to control aperture. You have to set the aperture ring to minimum aperture and control with the command dial in camera. No control by aperture ring. You will get the fEE error

On non- cpu lenses you have to set by aperture ring only.
