So, of the two, which do you learned folks prefer - if any?
Colin, I prefer the second. The snow is the main object and the building is of secondary interest - the second image emphasises the snow very nicely. Great image IMO
I bought my Micro-Nikkor 105mm f/4 AI-S (second hand) in 1987 and still have it today.
I mainly use it for all kinds of portrait and for some detail shots in wedding. The 1:2 direct ratio is more than enough for me and if in some cases I need a magnification bigger than 1:2 I use my PN-11 extension tube with this lens.
Here are some portrait shots:
Been awhile since Ive posted. I still visit and hit the like button often. My only MF lenses now are the 50mm 1.2/55mm 1.2 and the 105 1.8 here are a couple from earlier today with the 105:

This morning my younger brother informed me that my older brother has passed away; it appears that he chose not to linger for another couple of months (had the feeding tube removed, etc.). Although I am saddened that I did not have a chance to see more of him before he passed, and I know I will start into the grieving process soon, I have empathy for his decision.
In his honour, here are two final images from Englishman River Falls (both with the 28 f/2 Ai-s) and a photo of my brother ahead of me on the path at Elk River Falls the last time we were out shooting together (16 f/3.5 Ai).

Markus, I set my image files for upload here, to 1000 pixels on the longest edge, 72 dpi. Not seeing loss.

It's time for the next instalment in my Scotland series - this one taken on a beautiful afternoon in Plockton, where we enjoyed a Pint or two, admiring the view over the bay before heading for a wonderful evening dinner of Haggis-stuffed chicken breast in Whisky sauce.
Have a great sunday!
Markus
EDIT: I've noticed the photo looks less sharp on here than on my computer, also it has been downsized from the original 1400px wide. I tried uploading it at 1200px wide, but that also looked less sharp than the original. Does FM add additional compression to the uploads? Is there some setting I can adjust?...Show more →
So sorry for your loss, Glen. Maybe do a photo book of the images of the two of you together on outings?

Hello everybody! Yesterday was the Kiwi Camera exchange in Winter Park and saw some new people there with some regulars gone. Got a line on a silver Df and have relayed the info to Reagan. May see him tomorrow!
The crowd was pretty good and a lot of college age people in attendance and looking at the old stuff. The first shot is one of the tray of treats Michael's wife cooks up for the crowd. Donations to charity only!
Relatively few Nikon MF lenses. Saw a 45mm PC, all boxed with papers, with an asking price of a $1000. I passed.
The last shot is one where I couldn't help but think of Samy who would be like a kid in a candy store surrounded by tons of vintage camera gear.

I thought about it but thinking it would be best if used with a tri-pod which I try to avoid. I own two, a heavy one and a lightweight one but never warmed up to them. I know Jay uses his PC a lot with terrific results with tripods as well as hand held. Then there was the $1000.00. 💰💰💰
Colin, the second shot and not because of the shift in position but because of the processing. Also, how does that beach sand get stuck in the trees! 😃😃😃
