Not for me and I am thankful. Just one tree that I was considering taking down anyway. Mother Nature made that decision for me. Around 12,000 without power in my county. We never lost power. Was a lot of flash flooding yesterday. I was on my way back from Raleigh when the winds hit. Was like driving in one of those Michelin tire commercials
Southern Va especially Danville area got hit hard. All relative though considering the destruction in Florida.
So I have absolutely nothing to complain about here.
I had Nikki when Sandy hit NY/NJ area, and we had the outer edges of it here. I got those fantastic sunset photos at the cemetery that day (Oct 29th, IIRR)
Started off as I was driving west towards the cemetery, to be a thin orange line on the horizon, with thick clouds overhead. When I parked, this happened without ever getting out of my car. All shot from the seat of the 2005 Crown Vic. Had to pick my jaw up off the ground afterwards.

This is really what the sky looked like last night around 8pm, after the remnants of Michael went through. It was rather creepy, never seen anything like it before. I did nothing in post but raise the exposure a tad. The leaf was on the back step.

Peter - love the Porcupine Mountains shot - so spectacular it broke my monitor but it's probably the proper use of the 16mm f3.5, whereas I just use it to ape Philippe's old men pics.
Rafael - I totally see the method in your madness .... well.... the madness part anyway.

Ben, we are all mad in different ways. I have been looking for a factory ai converted 55mm 1.2 series 184xxx to 19xxxx in like new condition for 10 years. Getting it for a coupe of hundred pieces of 8 is such a bargain. All six of my 55mm 1.2 do not cost as much as a single 58mm 1.4 and they bring me much more entertaintment. If I were Jay Leno and these were six ferraris would you call me mad?

Ani,
That is the page that got me going on looking for different variations. All of them are optically excellent if they have not been messed with but you have to like their rendition. I do. My set does not have significant serial numbers as i prefer condition to special collectability.
Ah ok. When I purchased this lens there was just one previous owner which intrigued me. The father had past away and his son was selling a bunch of his equipment. I'd have to say it still looks brand new.

Funny, my son said the same thing in a text to us as they were going through there on the way to his wildlife program in the Smoky Mtns national park this summer

Rafael - ha ha .....on this thread we're all mad in the same way. 6 Nikon 55s is par for the course......I had 12 of the 105s so believe me, I'm with you 100%. I'm pleased for you if you got a bargain but for me it's not about the money. If it's something you want I would never question the expense - how is that relevant to anyone but you? As for the 6 Ferraris - I can't relate - but that's because cars are not my drug of choice. Sometimes though I get the impression that people buy luxury cars more as a status symbol than because of a true passion for the thing itself. Whereas in your case, your love for this glass is obvious and inspiring. I, for one, am very grateful to you for steering me in the right direction. The 5.8cm f1.4 you forced me to buy is still a personal fave.
Somehow every piece of gear Ben has someone or the other has forced him to buy it
Talking about mad. I now have a step sibling for the N8008 I have been doting over. An F801S showed up. Its got the 10.5cm Nippon Kogaku lens mounted, batteries loaded and is now eyeing the bottom compartment in the fridge to choose a film roll.
Great to hear George and Leighton did well in this latest storm. Did we hear from Scott from Georgia?
We got a tiny sliver of the fury of the storm, very heavy rain yesterday night and then a very brisk windy morning today. Horrible to see pictures of the destruction in northern Florida.
Completely agree Ken. Made Gatlinburg the stop on the way to New Orleans a couple of summers ago. Took this ski lift up to the mountain there thinking it would be a scenic panorama to photograph. There was no view there at all, just tourist trap stores and junk food.

Leighton, George glad you made it through the storm without issue. That sky is something we see occasionally to the west at sunset. Red sky at night is a sailors delight. We were in Gatlinburg and decided to drive back. Never been there, never going back ... what a tourist trap.
As to your tree George, last year when Irma went thru It took out a trellis in a split second that had been up for 25 years. Saved me a couple hours work.
Philippe, great image and yes, unbelievable ISO... Keep posting, please!
Ray, I compared on my two monitors... I think the second image is just a tad more vivid, but for my eyes is hard to make the difference. Maybe a B/W image will show more differences. Or not.
Luca, nice Deli captured with one of my preffered lenses. Keep posting as well!
I am guilty of having a few of the 50 MF Nikkors including the H-50 f/2. The H paints differently compared to the others with a more subdued look, at least on the Fuji X-E1. It is a great little lens that I think you will enjoy plus very easy on the wallet.
I am not sure why the 50/1.4 SC is overlooked. Perhaps is due to the fact that Ai converted examples are hard to find plus the AIs versions are so plentiful.
Regards,
Serge
I'll venture a guess since I too own the 50 f/1.4 S.C. AI and although it is a gorgeous lens that yields fine images, it never quite catches up with the 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI, its bigger brother. The 55 became a favored lens on the thread. I haven't sold the 50 f/1.4 S.C. AI, but then I have bought THREE 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI lenses, so that says something...
Interesting... I came to see how George and Leighton were faring following the visit from Michael and instead fall into a lens discussion. How could that ever happen here?
And, of course, my observation about the 55 f/1.2 was written before I saw Rafael's tantalizing post about his latest kit building exercise. So, Serge, you now get the answer to your question about the 50 f/1.4 S.C. from a few of us.
Thanks Rafael AND who the heck is this Ben character?
Ben, in case you missed the fact, we amended the laws some time ago so ANYONE with ANY camera can post on this thread so long as they use Nikon manual focus lenses. You're not only safe from prosecution, you're more than welcome. It is always nice to be reminded that the bottom half of the globe actually still exists. We have to rely on you and Peter to inform us...
