Colour images from today’s Marathon Moon-Walk training session. Another 4 hour trek though the North Hampshire country side, this time with the D610 & 55/1.2
Beautiful day, but sub-zero, with the wind chill factored in.

General question - does anyone have any experience in using those slot-in type ND grad filters such as Hitech, NiSi or Lee?
I have an old Cokin soft ND grad from many years ago and it is, er, rubbish.
I tried it on the 24/2.8 and the filter introduced some weird, but not wonderful, artefacts such as halos, green blobs, flare, when the sun was anywhere except directly behind me.

No there is no link other than an historical Dutch background. sadly Peter Oosterhuis, who is now 70, has Alzheimer's disease which he publicly announced in 2015 when he retired from golf broadcasting for CBS.
Louis Oosthuizen, on the other hand, and I share a common ancestor, Johannes Oosthuizen. Johannes was the progenitor (stamvader) of Oosthuizen family in South Africa. He arrived in the Cape from Weert, Holland in
1685.
There are many Oosthuizens in South Africa the majority of whom are only very distantly related.
Weert again, is merely 20 miles aay rom where I was born and raised. My grandmother. from my fathers side of the family, was born in Nederweert which is part of the municipality Weert.
Goes to show how small this world can be when you delve deep enough

Thanks for the likes and here are the rest of Weeki Waachi River with the D500 and the very useful 35-200 mm lens for this camera.
Nice shots Ken. The 35-200 is the lens I use most often paddling. Looking forward to getting back on the water. Put the kayak racks back on the truck this weekend. Planning on some river paddling week after next when my son comes home from college on spring break. Hopefully the weather will stay warm. March can be one extreme to the other here in NC.

Hi Colin,
I have a Cokin Z-Pro graduated ND kit. (3 filters, holder and adapter ring) Have not had any issues with flare or off color. I really only get it out a couple times a year when I am down at the coast. It is not top of the line stuff for sure, but not junk either.
Excellent shots at the museum Scott. Especially like the wood propeller.
Ken is it that warm already down south with the kayakers? Now I'm jealous.
Ken the 25-50 shots have stirred some NAS. I believe it started with some shots Scott posted not too long ago, and you've just piled on since. Super series from the valley of fire.
Thumbs up for the Facombe shot Colin.
Beautiful crop of the colorful lichen Leighton. I could play all day with framing on that subject.
A few more shots from Valley of Fire in Nevada. I hope I’m not boring folks to tears with these shots of the desert Southwest. I am captivated by this part of the US, probably because of the contrast with the rainy Pacific Northwest where I live.
First 2 with 18/3.5 AI-s.
Second 2 with 25-50/4 AI-s.
All with Df, of course. My trusty D700 just feels too big to schlepp around on travels anymore. OK, no jeers from you Sony users!
The conchoidal fractures in the sandstone slab were at least 15 ft. high in the last shot. No people were around for scale.
Colin
I still occasionally use the Singh Ray neutral grads from my slide shooting days. I remember the big deal about the Singh ray filters were that they were neutral in tone (the Cokins were magenta), probably less critical these days with digital, but I'll still take the neutrality anyway. Never noticed any odd picture effects, though keeping gem scratch fee was a full time job.

I just cut myself while processing this image. I cant believe how sharp these turned out. I have to have I am having a slightly harder time hand holding and focusing but when I get the focus locked, the results were outstanding.
