I love the sunrays-in-mist thing that seems to be happening in this photo, Peter!
I think that "mist" could very well be sun blocker on the front element Not sure if I wiped it off before that image, but earlier that day, I shot a number of frames that are all useless due to a big soft spot in the image center courtesy of SPF 50 liberally applied to skin and whatever gets in contact with it...
on second thought - no, I had cleaned it off. Here's another frame from the same spot, color and less sun flare, because I moved the lens to hide more of the sun behind trees.
f/22.0 1/8s ISO 64 camera sitting on a rock again, timer triggered. Too lazy to set up my tripod hiking pole rig.

I noted this post Kevin. It would be great fun if you could join us when Chin is in the Bay Area. He mentioned that his flight out of San Francisco is on March 13. He would likely be here the 11th and 12th, a Sunday and Monday. I know you're a busy man with a full-time job, a wife and baby, so will definitely understand if things don't work out. Would be fun though...
No non-Nikon equipment was used in the making of this image. Not even 1930s Leicas Just the good old Curtis-fave Df, and the 28 3.5 PC-Nikkor.
Used an ND10 filter. Dropped it twice on muddy ground (pretty clumsy day!), which I suppose is better than dropping it onto a rock or pavement. One issue I have is the pics have an awful pink flare on the right edge (about 3/4ths of the way up). The flare is not an issue after SEP conversion, but won't work if I try to take a color pic....Show more →
Samy, that's a great image. While doing some research on ND filters I read that certain makes have built in colour casts. This article shows test results of a few and also gives advice on how to fix he colour cast in lightroom . https://fstoppers.com/bestfiltertest
Thanks Peter, and Peter for the tips This is a 10 stop filter so there maybe limits, Will check out this link, as well as cover the viewfinder for any long exposures I take in the future.
In the meanwhile here's an attempt at Ben-ning, while the real Ben is off to another land (I think Canon this time).
Glad you've decided to include us in your internet rambles again.

Temperatures were over 80 this weekend and for the next week will be in the low to mid-seventies with clear skies. We all want rain, but very few Californians are complaining about the sun.

A panorama head from Nikon (of course)

Nikon for Nikon always
Nice purchase Steve. I am just trying to consolidate the lenses based on their usage over the past couple of years. Yesterday, I have been looking at macro sliders given that I am trying to focus my time in macro given the lack of foliage.
What I have seen best works handheld is not more than 3-4 shots stitched for enlarged details. Mushrooms by Ramkumar Sangameshwar, on Flickr
I have a poor relationship with my 135/2.8 AI-S. It doesn't get much time on the camera.
For some reason the number of usable (non-blurry) shots I get with this lens is way, way lower than other telephotos.
The form factor, focal length and my camera holding technique must exacerbate the problem.
Also with the Leica II and Nippon Kogaku 10.5cm f2.5 PC LTM lens, Adox CMS 20 film. Cropped on both sides, and definitely falling below Ben-esque standards, with too much light on the left. I don't think Ben will find out though - he's lost his way, wandering around somewhere in Canonland
Hello gentle fellows, I am back! My time was consumed closing out the totaling of the Nissan Pathfinder, producing documentation to be paid by the insurance company and buying a new car. Selecting a car is a great pain in the behind, selecting what one wants and finding it at a good price. But it is all behind now, good riddance.
Speaking of values, I am totally happy with my like new $2000 800mm 5.6 Nikkor. Nothing in the current line up comes close to this much for this much money, if only I knew what to do with it.
This weekend my friend Nicole visited, we took my new farmer's Cadillac, a 2017 Ram 4x4 Laramie ecodiesel (paid 66% of msrp) down to Jeff's hangouts, Solana, Beacon's, Grandview.
Glad you found a replacement vehicle. Now, if you don't know what to do with that 800mm lens, send it to me for a little bit. We've got new eagles in the area and I could really use something long to capture them with.
