A bit off topic but figured this would be the place to ask: what’s the best bet for an affordable manual focus screen for the D800? I have tried searching but seem to find more discussion without resolution from around when the cameras were released (have searched a few models.) I figure a few years on there may be a better consensus? There are $35 options on eBay but no idea if they’re useful. FocusingScreens.com I think has some listed but not sure I want to sink $100+ I to it. Any thoughts appreciated.

Looking a little slow, so here are a few more from yesterday to star page 6262.
Headed back out again today to see what I can conjure up! I took the S3 RF out yesterday too and am working through a 36 exposure roll of BW 400 Ilford. Someday I will figure it all out, but shooting a rangefinder is tricky business at first because one doesn't have a light meter, and one only has 1/1000 of a second to work with, so more to learn for me on it. I ended up using the DF metering to help me.

Mark - check out the Sekonic Twinmate L-208 meter. Small, inexpensive and fits in your pocket or a lanyard around your neck. It actually comes with a hot shoe mount. That is what I use when shooting with my Nikon S2.
George
Hey George, thanks, I have been looking at them along with the original Nikon ones I saw in a video, however on Flebay, none of the work anymore as the cells have died. I do have a older but still nice Sekonic meter, I just need to dig it out and I will to finish this roll of film. The weather took away the good light on me today, so not very productive today.
I have been enjoying your B&W rural images of late.
Colin
Thanks Colin, I have always enjoyed your work here as well. Having fun with this new camera and its got me slowly finding my way back into the groove. I have been in a B&W mood lately and literally seeing them in finished B&W before even taking some of these.
I think the place many get their Df screens from also has them for the D800and would be a reputable source. I can't remember the name but guessing now someone will remind me us again.
Edit: I believe this is it here. The prices are not in dollars and usually under $100.

Yea, I’d seen those. I know they alter it some but a K3 screen can be had for $20, they file down the glass and charge $92... maybe I’m being cheap but...

Rafael, I too, will keep Aby in my prayers for a successful bone marrow transplant. Our Dia de los Muertos is also this weekend, and it's also the last weekend for the Ohio Renaissance festival. I am planning on going to both.

At the moment I'm testing sporadically which 50-58mm legacy lenses I would prefer. Yesterday I take the Nikkor HC 50mm/2 with me to a short walk
Mark, love your previous b/w set. That second one is a favourite!
Colin, nice cat shot! It has lovely eyes even though I see some trouble there
Rafael, great shots. Hope everything goes well with Aby. Since I got kids I´m particularly sensitive to this kind of issues. Thoughts and prayers from Sweden.
Getting a bit better now so I gathered some strength, after-flu, brining my D800 and the Leighton lens to the countryside for some fresh air and photography.
Not much but here´s a few shots...
