First time I have mounted the AF lens for about a year !!
I was thinking of selling it ... but I don't know .... I might have to to fund a D850 eventually ....
But I really think that the 850 will be seriously unforgiving of focus mistakes and DOF issues ... so will wait a while on that one .... though the results I have seen so far look awesome !!
Been busy but I've messed around with the 50 1.2 whenever I had a chance. Just some quick grabs here. Lens is pretty darn sharp even at 1.2 if you avoid the glow... but I'm not breaking news here. I'm just late to the party
More from Berlin. This time the Holocaust Memorial.
I visited this incredible monument in the early evening just as the sun was setting below some broken cloud cover.
Since Rainbow Falls came up a few days ago, I took that as a nudge to process a few more Sierra Nevada shots from July. Been extremely busy since that trip, so most photos from vacation are still to be processed.
All here 20mm f/3.5 AI - how could I not bring that lens along?
And about an hour south of the falls, deep in the backcountry few ever visit. We saw nobody for 2 days and over 30 miles heading in that direction away from Rainbow Falls. That valley burned catastrophically in 1997, but it has recovered to a very different place. Few visit because all they see is "burn zone"

Nice work with the 50 Frank
Now lets see that new 105 at work
Two more of our iconic Table Mountain complex - the first the sight seen by travellers arriving by sea and the second from behind the mountain just after first light.

I just tonight realized I had not done my traditional round up of my MF Nikon images from 2016. So I took a few minutes to collect them all together and put them up on Zenfolio:
and Steve I'm totally behind "nikon on nikon always" .....but this is the nikon 13.5cm f3.5 QC for LTM mount. Nikon didn't make this for a Nikon camera....what can I do?....iNikon is preventing me adhering to the "nikon on nikon always" principle. Should I drop them a line to highlight the problem?
If you feel your powers of persuasion are in the ascendancy or at their zenith, then please do drop them a line to correct this retrograde mistake.
Not sure they have the wherewithal to turn the clock back to those heady days of early production either.
So we come down to the certain knowledge that 'it's not going to happen'
Please be minded of the fact that my 'Nikon on Nikon always' is a personal stance, and one that may put me at odds with the users of Leica, Canon, Sony, Fuji, Lumix/Panasonic and other nefarious body manufacturers.
So instead of kneeling while the band plays the anthem, I perhaps should stay in the locker room and keep my opinions to myself .... 'ain't gonna happen'
Because I am so pure , i.e. pure as the driven slush, I will keep my arrogant head well and truly above the parapet. That way I will continue to be a fine target for those who prefer other ways of doing things.
Put this rant down to the ravings of a 'grumpy old man' - I feel at this stage in life I have earned the right
Thank you Ben for your support in the quest for Nikon on Nikon always
Steve
Nikon on whatever comes to hand (nah - it's just not the same)
Steve, cool work with the 135 f2. Outstanding lens!
Frank, superb pics using the 50 1.2.
Colin, interesting look at the Holocaust memorial at Berlin.
Peter, lovely falls in the valley!
Ken (Oregon), I like the storm clouds scene, especially the 3rd pic.
Peter (Knysna), wow, that sure is a flat mountain top!
Ben, enjoying your work with the 50's 13.5cm Nikkor. Its real native camera would be a Barnack Leica though, not the M10 Enjoying the lines and angles in some of your latest pics!
Samy - I love that 8.5cm shot. Almost didn't notice the second guy looking at the jogger. I would love the 8.5cm in LTM mount but they have become quite expensive. It's so strange - just a couple of years ago you could buy these lenses for under $100 but the prices are skyrocketing. I bought a 5cm f2 yesterday - while I could still afford one.
As you say, the true native camera would be a Barnack Leica but that's one of the difficulties with the purist approach, it would mean most of the lenses we're using here shouldn't be mounted on any digital nikon camera, their true native mount would be the Nikon F series, or whatever cameras were available at the time of release. The further back we go, and the older the lenses we use, the narrower our options become.
Steve - this is a specialist thread focussed on nikon manual focus lenses, if this isn't the place to rant about "nikon on nikon always" I don't know where is. More power to you.
