I never caught the M&M bug. I've always been a fan of very dark chocolate but alas I've been told by folks who know that chocolate is not the best thing for my health. Of course, they say that about many things that I've concluded I simply am unwilling to give up. I can do without chocolate but not an occasional glass of red wine...
My browsing of old photos led me to a market shot taken last year shortly after arrival of the new to me 85 f/1.8 H.C. I had to take it for a spin and a local farmer's market seemed a pretty good place to experiment. Forgive me if I've posted this before. I did, however, process this image today and can't find a copy on my Flickr account.

My brother is holed up in his Miami house all alone, having sent his family away. He is very resourceful with generators and portable AC, food, refrigeration etc. but it is worrying nevertheless. He is an Andrew survivor.
We'll wish all family members and friends the best at this event unfolds Rafael. Your brother is a survivor who definitely knows what he is in store for, having survived Andrew. I learned today that name has been "retired." Friends of Sue lived near Homestead during that horrific storm. I don't recall whether they lost their home or not.
Meanwhile we'll count ourselves lucky as we wait patiently for the next earthquake...
I'm waiting to hear from my dad, who lives in The Villages. Not sure if he decided to hunker down, or travel out of state for a bit. Apparently getting out of FL is getting tougher as gas stations are limiting purchase to ten gallons, and stores are pretty empty. Whoever is staying should have at least two weeks' worth of necessities on hand, including medications.
That is a tough one Rafael given how different is their field of view. I would expect both of them to do well what they were designed to do. We've seen more from you using the 15 f/3.5 and we could expect the older lens to have a few more idiosyncrasies that we'd likely consider character. Both perform well above. You're not being a troublemaker are you Rafael?

Where is "The Villages" Laura?
Sue was busy putting all her mother's medications together before they left her condo. She was also pulling together critical paperwork on insurance, banking, home ownership and car details. Her brother who at one time sold insurance encouraged her to take photos of everything in the condo and of the car, including the odometer. Her other brother, a contractor, suggested she trip electrical breakers for everything but the refrigerator. She was exhausted when we spoke early in the afternoon. I told her I wouldn't try to contact her. She can call me when she feels she has band width to do so...

I just ended a Facetime call with Sue. Having the ability not only to chat, but also to see a loved one is really good. Generally, we see each other every few days, so when weeks pass I definitely miss her. A good chat on Facetime helps. She, of course, is exhausted. At the moment she is going through her mother's condo deciding what to take and what to elevate in the chance high water reaches the condo which is about five or six miles inland, not too far from the Florida Turnpike. There must be a big difference between leaving your home with a hurricane on the horizon but days away and leaving because a forest fire is bearing down on you. Imagine having thirty minutes to decide what to take with you as you abandon your home.
Honestly, she is going to what appears to be rather sweet accommodations. There are a couple of restaurants and they have room service. They have their own generator though it wouldn't operate air conditioning, which might be a problem. Unfortunately, her mother's car will be outside rather than in their garage, so both the car and her condo are vulnerable. But as Sue said to me this morning, it is lives that matter, not possessions.
Take care Ken. And yes, I knew you'd picked up a copy of the 18 f/3.5 AI-s. I sure do miss Ray. What a great human being he was. I know our Florida contingent knows that well since you had the opportunity to spend some time together. But as we get older, we appreciate there are no guarantees in life. Losing people we love seems to be part of the deal.
CURTIS, I hope all goes well for Sue and her mother!
The 18 3.5 was my first lens in the current collection, inherited from my father when he passed in 2008. I played with it just a tiny bit on the D700 but sort of had the its old mentality and so on the shelf it went. I sold much of my fathers camera gear off, some I wish I had not, but oh well, that's how it goes as I was under pressure to deal with the enormity of his stuff.
Enter the DF which I tried and liked by accident and its talk of manual focus old lens support and I decided to check out what I had on the shelf, the 18 and I think an old 28.. will have to go back in this thread and look. Anyways, I took it to Omaha with me and was hooked after that and then I found this thread and it was all over. The devil got me and the collection mushroomed!
All this to say, I really like the 18 and frequently choose it over the 20 3.5. When I go to the collection to pack up and look at the wides, it's either the 15 or the 18. The 18 is the choice if I am going to shoot outdoors and it's sunny because of the ghost blobs and flare on the 15. I will have to try the slower 15 someday. The 18 is a great lens though!
So your dad is in hurricane territory Laura and Mark is in tornado country. I'm left in earthquake country, so I guess there is no getting away from whatever Mother Nature has in store for us. I wish him well.
Carried the 400/5.6 ED-AI + 14TC with me just about all day starting early this morning until dinner time.
No idea about the f-stop, but it was either f/8 or f/11.

That's not a Benz shot - that's definitely not a street candid shot from the hip. You lined that up.
That's you copying me shooting ultrawide - and it has to stop! I think you underestimate how genuinely clueless I am. I rely on borrowing from others just to press the shutter. If you start copying me copying you I won't be able to leave the house.

Ben, Ben, Ben.... What a disappointment! I know you know nothing about german cars but I was actually hoping that (at least) you would have found my shot amusing....
My thoughts are with all those in the path of Irma. Reagan, Ken and any others in the path stay safe.
Curtis mentioned having minutes to pack essentials - friends of ours were lucky to escape with their lives as houses literally burned as they left. The lesson is to get out in good time and leave the problem to the insurance companies. As Curtis' Sue says lives are more important than possessions.
Ingrid has a brother in Tampa FL and hopefully he will be fine. Communication with his big sister is not his strong suit!!

Philippe - ha ha..... I wasn't thinking about the shot - I was thinking about the title which was was obviously a play on words. I didn't look past the double entendre - I should have - but I was freaked out about the Benz stuff.

So far, he only posted this "New Policy" there, however the "New Policy" affects more than just NSFW, or images of Nudity (including linked images).
