Wait, what?! Really?!! I don’t know what to say! Thank you so much! I’m floored. Thank you so much.. I’m in shock.
It is rather simple Kevin. The first lens to make the thread participant rounds was Nikki, an F mount 85mm 1.8 that traveled the world. At the end of the tour Ben, the original owner, gave the lens to Leighton as he had shown the most interest in using it and, if I remember correctly, documented the travel in a Blog. Nippi, an 8.5cm 2.0 S mount lens went on a much lower key tour but my intention was always to give it away to the participant with the most enjoyment of the lens, following the tradition. You were very expressive about enjoying it so the lens is now yours. I have your address, PM me if that has changed. If Ben or Andy do not respond about wanting to use her I will send it to you in a week or so.

I'm truly honored. I did love using the lens and many of the pictures I took with the lens while in San Diego have been printed and hung on the wall at home. I'm at the same place. I will be here for at least two more years until my youngest goes to middle school (have to move to keep her in the same district...really sucks).
Random aside (and this is from the 75-150mm Series E…) But a month ago or so I was having issues with color banding. After trying compressed, uncompressed, sRGB vs AdobeRGB etc., finally figured out Adobe was causing it with its Camera matching Profile. Maybe a known issue but not one I was aware of and about had me ready to sell a Sony body. Just sharing as a PSA. Two copies of the same file with Camera Standard and Adobe Landscape. The difference is dramatic.

Which is which? Is the one with the artifact the Camera Standard?
Top is Adobe’s Camera Standard (A7III) which is implied as Sony’s Standard Profile. Bottom is Adobe Landscape. Not just the weird band between warm and cool colors (which is how I first noticed) but the gradation up from the bottom for example. It’s almost like it’s dropping bit depth. Probably a related issue somewhere but changing a profile shouldn’t be THIS drastic!

I got my Nikon 105mm f2.5 AI, and i dont like it. I will tell you why, I dont like where the aperture dial is, I dont like the focus, the focus is very stiff to turn. I have a mint copy of the lens so there is nothing wrong with it. I think I'm used to Voightlander lenses and they focus butter smooth. I know i just got it hours ago but i already know its not for me.
Is anybody interested it's going in the sale section here, it's mint-like new.

Interesting. Now you have me second guessing some stuff I thought I had seen previously. I think I'll try to pay a little more attention for the next few weeks.

Sorry to hear Mike. But when you know, you know, and nothing can change the position of the aperture dial. As far as focus ring stiffness, I just tried my copy of the 105, and it's smooth and not stiff at all (subjective I know). I do know that some lenses just get a stiff focus ring, because, well, I don't know. I have a pretty nice copy of a 55mm f2.8 AIS Micro that has been great for years, but got stiffer over the course of probably 15 months or so, to the point where I'll probably have to take it apart and work on it before using it again. The lens was never abused the entire time I've owned it (I purchased used), other than if my body can tolerate the cold or hot, I will be shooting with the gear. Some occasional moisture but never pouring rain (too much work keeping the lens objective dry).

Yeah im so used to small Voightlanders, this lens is pretty big, im fine with the weight. Maybe im jumping off it to fast, i will give it another day and see if i can get a feel for it.
Matt, I see some banding in both. Top image has some in the gray to blue transition between the golden globes. Bottom image has some between the light and dark blue. There may be a factor you are not considering - the monitor. Most LED monitors can not even cover the full srgb palette - even when they claim that they can. If you really want to check - find an old cathode tube monitor (they all can do billions of colors. Another factor can be editing that causes image damage. The camera shoots in trillions of colors. See if a SOC jpg has any of the banding. Do you shot jpg or raw?
Jim

The Micro 55/2.8 has an issue with the grease suddenly drying out and very nearly fusing the helical together. The Series E 100/2.8 has the same. I had a Rafael quality 55/2.8 in box that was stuck hard and fast at near max magnification. I used it for a few months and tried to get it serviced. I had three techs refuse to service it. I passed it along in trade, fully disclosed.

Some old lenses become stiff to focus, the grease hardens or they get dropped with no visible damage, it is always a game of chance - but we all have our preferences and this keeps life interesting.

Mike , I'm not sure you have a good copy. The focus on mine is silky smooth so perhaps the lubricant has got sticky .
It really is an excellent lens and as far as aperture goes once you decided on that it should be all about focus.
I'm considering buying a Z6 as you often can find them for a good price now.
What adaptor is best for Ai-S lenses? Is the FTZs or any third part. I'll only be using it with MF and would like to record non cpu data as I do with DSLRs.
