Nice set Scott. Heading that direction Thursday afternoon. Taking the mountain bike to some Pisgah trails on Friday.

My wife and I took a quick trip to the tri-state area of Georgia, SC, and NC yesterday. The only manual focus lens I took is the 28/3.5 Ai-S.

I don't have the 1.8 or 1.4 lenses you mention so can't compare directly. I do have a 55/1.2 but prefer the 50/2 becasue it is lighter.
I like it becuase it is small and doubles up for me in IR. Probably the sharpest lens I have for IR (although the 16/3.5 is pretty close) That's the reason it is always in my bag. The fact they can be had for very little money is also a bonus.
I actually have two an H and HC but in use can't tell the difference between them.
I though the H, with less fancy coatings, would be better in IR but I can't see any difference.

You should have a great time. We didn't make it quite that far North (we were in the Lake Toxaway area), but if the weather is anything like we experienced, it should be great. I hope it's a little cooler for you, though. It got up to 81 on Saturday, which was nice. It just didn't feel like autumn.

It's been 70's and 80's here all week. But the wind is blowing in a cold front as I type and it should feel more like autumn tomorrow.

Ow I need to go find a 50/2 again. The fall off on the close up shot is quite nice, in addition to portraits on earlier pages.

It's 0430 and there's a freeze warning, and it's 30°F/-1.1°C at the moment. High today of 42°F/5.5°C.

Excellent photographs in the last few pages by all. I have been traveling a bit of late and managed to take some photos along the way.

April 25 Bridge (1966) over the Tagus River, Lisbon. It is at times referred to as the Golden Gate Bridge of Portugal. It is an awesome area for photography, have a few others that need to get around to tweaking.

This is quite the combination of diagonal lines for movement, vertical lines for stability, triangular segments, and perfectly placed woman-with-tripod-&-shadow for balance, Serge. Very nicely seen and captured!
While the thread has been busy, I've avoided putting more than one of my image posts in a single page, but I have a ton of photos and there's been a four-hour gap, so why be rigid about it, right? Here is a set from my D800E at Big Qualicum River that includes one with some fall colour in it. Lenses used were the 28 f/2 N (first two photos) and the 50 f/1.4 SC (for some fall colour).

Fall 2023 GAS re-purchase some old pals. New to me is the 135 F4 bellows lens, little unique as it started its life as an RF optic and had several mount changes during its life.

So two 300 4.5s, the H and prob the later ED AIS version, a 135 2.8 QC, a 50 or 58 1.4, apart from the 135 bellows and I am not quite sure what the top left one is. Am I pretty close? That's quite a Halloween season haul! Congrats!

You get around Serge! Glad to see someone from the younger generation use something other than a phone to take photos!!
No need for those constraints Glen, keep those pictures coming.
