Leighton,
I came to IR late, but when I am thinking black and white while shooting - there are now two categories in my head. That tree has presence in person, that get lost in color, and in traditional black & white. In IR the bones of the tree, and the space it claimed from the forest stand out. For me IR captures that presence. I'm glad you liked it.

Seems to me that a scene has to have contrast between shadows and light to begin with before IR makes a noticeable difference.

I haven't seen him post any shots of the famous bridge there though... the one with bungee jumping...
Laura, I did the right thing; I followed up on the rumour started by that standup comic who claimed that there was nude bungee jumping at the bridge. When I went to check it out, though, I discovered (with relief!) that the bungee jumping was done fully clothed and (with disappointment) that there wasn't any good opportunity to take interesting photos. So I did my best for you (though I didn't bungee jump).
Now, to get back to classic car photos, the best show on Vancouver Island each summer is the one in Comox, which is staged on a golf course surrounded by forest (the grass is brown due to drought). Here are a few Woodies from that show. The first two were taken with the 24 f/2.8 NC, and the other two are from the 50 f/1.4 SC.
Sadly, Jeanne passed, last year I think it was. She told great stories.
For those wondering what we're talking about:
Did you go on the weekend after Valentine's Day for the charity event?
Love the woodies!

Yes, Laura... recovering from oral surgery... an hour and forty minutes in the chair while the surgeon who is both a dentist and medical doctor did his thing. Surgery was on August 29, exactly two months after the fall that did the damage. I spent a week with my friend/former wife Sue, returning home on Tuesday. I'll have stitches removed on September 26, the day before my birthday. It has taken me a few days to recover enough that I could join the usual suspects who talk about photography and lenses. I'm happy to note that ten pages have passed since last I post a comment. Things are happening here... LENSES ARE BEING BOUGHT!
Glad to know that folks here haven't lost their appetite for a fine manual focus lens. Well done everyone. And congratulations on the fine photos posted. I actually took a few yesterday during a ramble around my neighborhood. I'm slowly getting my energy back. I was surprised how debilitating the surgery turned out to be. Hopefully, I'll get a few photos worth sharing on this thread. I will definitely return and I promise to stir the pot...
Seeing all of Glen's photos of cars inspired me to go back and grab one photo of a pristine 1955 Chevy Bel-Aire station wagon... taken with the 55 f/1.2 S.C. AI. The car was parked not too far from where I live on a road I took quite regularly on my way to a hike... something I probably will not be doing again... though the trailhead is at a stables I love to visit simply to take photos of horses.

Glad you are on the road to recovery. Yes, lenses and cameras are being bought, for sure.

Glad to hear you are on the Mend Curtis, so am I from cataract removal with 20/20 vision after the surgery but still healing the wounds - so it seems ability to manually focus will continue.
James, your explanation of the appeal of IR in highlighting the core structure of the trees is brilliant. Puts eloquent words to the appeal. Still holding out though the thought still percolates in my brain thanks to your shots and Colin’s shots.
Lovely glow on the clouds Leighton.
Some wonderful flower portraiture Regina, Serge, Laura.
Great news on the recovery process Curtis. Good to have you back.

Glad to hear that all went well Curtis. I seem to have acquired a 105/1.8 Ais, 135/2 Ai and a 200/2 Ai in your most recent absence. The first two I did on my own, I wavered on the last one but the thread's disciples helped persuade me to pull the trigger (let's be honest, I just needed some help pushing the buy it now button)
Good to hear you're back on track. I hope it doesn't bother you too much.
