From this morning, I was just thinking I need me one of those long 'un like James has, when I was staring at this through the 180mm f2.8 AIS. Count on the devil to post a link .
Highly cropped frames, sorry for the large picture.
Scanning the menu; Stretching out for the hunt; Action!
In keeping with the "Kit Building is Forever" spirit of this thread, here is a link to a nice little lens somebody might want to snap up. If I didn't already own the 50 f/1.4 SC, I would be grabbing this little beauty myself.
And here is a small set of infrared images from my converted Fuji X-T2 at the Coombs car show, all courtesy of the 24 f/2.8 NC that seems to be my favourite lens for classic cars.

No, this was a recent, about 16 months ago, acquisition. I use to own a 500mm f4 afs, but in 2012 I
sold it because the neuropathy in my feet. was so bad that i was afraid I would fall over on walkabout.
It ended up being lucky timing as Nikon came out with newer long lenses at about 200% more than
the previous super teles. Owned it for about 5 years, and made almost 2k selling it - that fueled some
NMFAS for quite awhile.
I’m dealing with very bad neuropathy as well. My last flair up is what had me out for a few months. I couldn’t feel anything from about mid thigh to my the tips of my toes. I still can’t feel my feet or toes, but I can walk again. At its worst, it took me about 20 minutes to go 15 feet. The new meds are working finally, and the diabetic meds are really working.

I still have that 28/2 Ai lens that you sold me back in 2014
and the thread has picked up speed with old men reminiscing
I have moved away from the ocean up to Tallahassee,Fl
with woods and lakes 2 blocks from my house
but alas I can't get away from Hurricanes with one following us up here
I may have to wipe the dust off of an old lens
Good to see I am not the only one getting old

You've been on my mind Reagan, in part because I've been looking at photos I uploaded to Flickr. I came upon the photos I took during my visit to Florida in 2012 when you and Ray drive down to Delray Beach so we could hang out. It was a great day, at least is was for me. Sad to think Ray is no longer with us. I'm glad to hear you're still above ground. Yes, we're all getting older my friend. As they say, get a few old timers together and you can expect an organ recital...
Here are two dudes... Ray was shooting with my 85 f/1.4 AI-s which tempted him enough that he had to buy one!

If you decide you want another D200, I'd be happy to facilitate a purchase from the likes of KEH or MPB.
Thanks Laura, as always you are very kind.
D200's are readily available in SA but I have moved on.
I love the Z5 which I picked up when Nikon had a special deal in SA. I got a great trade -in on my old analogue N80 as well as having the 24-200 and FTZ adapter thrown in.
I also love my D500 and the 200-500mm for wildife.

Thanks for mentioning the closeup filters... Got me thinking about the limitations of 3 feet MFD of these rangefinder lenses...
(sounds of scratching around in a storage box)... Found No1 and No2 Nikon closeup filters in 52mm... (more scratching noises). Bingo, a 43mm to 52mm stepup ring. 3' limitation overcome for use on Z body
Owe you a beer Alan
Oh yeah, you mentioned getting a M to Z adapter. I recommend a Rayqual adapter. Cost more than most, but cheaper than a Novoflex. Made in Japan, rear baffle, great construction. I also use their Nikon S to Z and F to Z adapters. I get them through Japan Hobby Tool, but CameraQuest may have them too.
For old times sake - this is of the lighthouse at Cape St Francis, South Africa, which surfers of the 60's may recall was the home of the "Perfect Wave" as potrayed in "The Endless Summer" and iconic surfing movie at the time.

If any of you ever has a 500/4 that you don't want to tote around anymore, just keep me in mind at some point! It's definitely not as practical as carrying a 400/4.5 or 100-400, but certainly lighter on the wallet and still a fine lens.
Right now, my longest lens on the Z system is a 24-120 S. I used an E-Mount Tamron 70-180 (the one Nikon recently rehoused and released) but decided to sell it before the Nikon version came out. I am on hold for splurging on the Nikon version while it's at full price (it's a lovely lens and about the same size of the classic ED AIS 180mm) but I promised Nikki I wasn't going to go crazy with modern AF lenses for that kit. The Z lenses I've used are great, make no bones about it, but I try not to throw thousands upon thousands at lenses when I have my crew to feed and I like to save and space those purchases out on a longer time scale. MFNG was always more up my alley price wise for trying lenses! The long lenses get expensive fast, just a 70-180 and 100-400 quickly get close to $3000 and don't even get me started on that lovely 400/4.5S that is so compact for a family of folks who love to birdwatch on our hikes and drives.
Meanwhile, our pair of Oregon Opticron binoculars were about $200 and my main stable of 28/2, 50/1.2, and 105/2.5 were only about $800 combined back when I originally bought each. I think the craziest thing to remember is when I bought all of those, the only fast, modern 28mm or 50mm lens available from Nikon was the 50/1.4 G AF-S and I never felt that it delivered anything much better than what my old 50/1.2 was capable of. Nikon has really stepped their game up (as have most manufacturers) in this past 10 years for optics, but nothing beats the feel of a manual focus ring....Show more →
I'm thinking long term, Leighton, in five to ten years... it'll be dragging. This laptop has lasted 11 years, and it's lagging, running win7

Laura, unless you're doing a lot of REALLY heavy lifting like editing 8k videos and playing games, I would save a bit of money and go for the M2 Pro Mac Mini. Or perhaps wait until September when Apple comes out with their new M3 processor to see which machine gets it first.
And now that you can no longer add RAM or upgrade the HDD after purchase... that's a big concern of mine.

If the extra money is not an issue, buy the 32 GB. Whenever I choose my computers, I get the best available within my budget to last longer. I still have an old MacPro (from 2012) that is still working! I bought a new one, but my old one still has a CD room!

I haven't forgotten how you PLAYED with us... My guess even that photo has disappeared into the Archive... where NO photos are posted. I think you're safe Laura... we'll never know what you look like...
And I did check the Control Panel but I see no listing for blocked members... so perhaps I don't have such a list or it doesn't show up there. I'm still confused...
And I was the buyer of the 180, and your 300 f/2.8....

I can't honestly remember either so many things to remember. My first 180/2.8 was pretty beat up but it worked well for Nikki's graduation. I later had a nice SIC copy that was in perfect condition that I kept for a very long time but ultimately sold as I took very few shots above 105.

Thanks Chris and Regina. It has taken me a long time to understand I don't need to go through life's challenges on my own... it is okay to say I NEED help and to accept it when it is offered. This thread has always been a very generous place in many ways. How else could one describe what happened with the Great Nikon Lens Adventure. As Chin explained when he related telling friends about what we were doing. They came up will all kinds of horror stories. We didn't really know one another well but we succeeded. Here's the card I found when I opened the box with Nikki...
I don't think about this community when considering the support I need around health related issues... and yet, I recall difficult moments that came in many forms and how generous people here were. So thanks for the support in this moment. I'm reminding what a very special place this is in cyberspace. ...Show more →

Probably would if I could really see me using it that often. Maybe something really crazy will drop in my lap, who knows. I decided to force myself to shoot each and every lens I own in July/August this year just to use it and not have it sit as I tend to have my favorites but don't like having gear I don't use. Still have a couple more to go.
