Curtis,

That site you referenced, Replacements, Ltd is about 15 miles from where I live. My wife worked their loan when they first started out back in her banking days. It is quite the complex now. If they can't find something chances are it is not out there.

I thought so Jim... I bought a collection of Dansk products in Copenhagen with my former wife. We were setting up our home and traveled for a couple of months through Europe before doing so. We had that same piece in red. That trip was 54 years ago and the only piece I still own is a spoon, but a lovely spoon indeed that I learned a moment ago would cost $79.95 to replace!!!

With regard to Apple's monitors they are ridiculously expensive. Of course, I have opted for the iMac... I'm on my fourth... the last three have had 27"

Mary,

There is no indication of what exactly was done to address the lug issue. I know they did not replace the entire top cover because the protection screen I had on the top panel LCD was still on there. The is no evidence at all they opened the camera. I say that as a good thing. The camera came back cleaner than it went in

They also provided a Technician's QC Report indicating the various checks that were also done after the repair. Sensor cleaning, eye sensor cleaning, focus check, exposure check, etc.

I sent mine in last Monday (14th) to Melville NY. They got it on Wed the 16th and I received it back here this Tuesday afternoon. I feel the response from Nikon on these two issues were handled very very well.

Hi, everyone:

Jay, awesome captures of the hummingbirds.

George, nice photo of a great looking bike.

Lake Garda, I would have preferred multi coated optics on this one.

The Alps in the background:

Thanks Leighton. I really expected the reddish amber, and teal colors would get messed up imaging on a TV, but no - even using NX Studio I was able to tune the color to what my eyes saw. I noticed another odd feature of the TV running the exact same 1920 x 1080 resolution as many of my monitors - the fonts have crisper edges?

Mind sharing a link to the monitor you purchased?

It has been observed a number of times that I'm a bit of a chatty Cathy and when I'm present the board gets busier. For the first few years I needed to keep thing going but gradually folks stuck around and we sent a lens around the world which kept folks engaged. I haven't been around the last four years and the thread has done just fine without me. I trust the thread has been in good hands. But since I'm here I'll likely do what I do... and that is chat with whomever is here about whatever strikes my fancy.

Glad to here your dental journey has a good outcome. I expect it will be for me as well, though I would have preferred to come to it another way. The fall was pretty traumatizing. My dentist assures me that what I'll be doing with the oral surgeon next week will be much easier than what I've already experienced with the fall. My lip is still healing almost two months after the fall. The rock hit my mouth but it was my upper lip that broke off the two teeth and dislodged one eye tooth. It was the tooth that didn't break that did the most damage to my lip. But, as I've said... I was lucky. It could have been much worse.

Nice to see you're still engaged with these lenses Mary. They are quite magical.

Leighton and Jim... just a note. Your conversation about the Mac Mini came just as my friend in India contacted me about the possibility of moving from his MacBook Pro to an iMac. I suggested he give some thought to the Mac Mini. Prices for everything are quite a bit higher in India but at least now there is an Apple store there. For years the only way you could get an Apple product was with a friend bringing one from another country. My friend, who lived for decades in the U.S., visited last year. When he returned his suitcase was LOADED with gear he'd bought for friends. But Apple recently opened two stores... one in Delhi and one in Mumbai. He'd definitely save money by going the Mac Mini route...

Great shot showing what this lens is capable of when used skillfully. It is often maligned as having loads of chromatic aberration. I have a copy of this lens that does have unpleasant CA at infinity focus. At medium to near range it does surprisingly well. I’m curious if your copy behaves similarly.

If I can locate some flower pics taken with that lens, I'll post one for comparison.

In any case I always enjoy seeing what under-appreciated lenses can do. Another example of such a lens is the 35-105mm f3.5-4.5. I got mine new for hiking. I was extremely disappointed to find that at 105mm near infinity it was terrible; yet at closer focus it was fine. At shorter focal lengths it did quite well at all distances. One learns to use a lens where it shines and avoid other situations.

Thanks, Curtis. This lens was one of the first manual lenses I bought (in a set with many others). I should use it more often. I do not have the "brother". I only have the 200mm f4 AI version.

The AI and AI-s versions of the 200 f/4 are fine lenses BUT their form factor makes them difficult to use. They are simply too small to hold at that focal length. The earlier QC version carries more mass and weight, which makes it easier to hand hold while shooting. I will always pick up the QC if I shoot that focal length... though truth be told, the even heavier 180 f/2.8 AI-s is my preferred lens. I call that one a desert island lens. As. you're discovering, this really is an adventure. Fortunately, we can take the journey without needing to mortgage our homes to do so. Enjoy yourself.

Curtis, nice to see you back along with your flower images. Kind of like Leighton’s market shots, they just belong here. Hope your recovery is going well.

Still less time for shooting, but had a few minutes with the 55 f/3.5 K Mount and a random target that caught my eye.

Curtis. It is exciting times for technology. I remember reading about how hard it was going to be to get under 10nm in the CPU fabrication process, and now TSMC is building Apple silicone designs at 5nm (20 billion transistors on the stock M2). I have a Shuttle XS35V4 (mini paperback book sized PC) - quad core from a 22nm process up to 2.4 ghz that only uses 10 watts! I have nightlights that use more power than that. This mini has yet to feel warm - even when rendering some video using Divinci Resolve (BTW, a fantastic free video/audio editor that reminds me of the depth found in Proshow Producer by Photodex) The M2 uses between 5.3 and 36 watts depending on load. A refrigerator bulb is 40 watts.

Let's have an actual photo taken earlier this week with the venerable 105 f/2.5 P AI. Amazing what these OLD lenses can do... much like the OLD photographers who use them...

These are Meyer lemons... a second round for the season. They are worth waiting for. This tree is at the front of the property where I live, so I'll surely get to enjoy a few of these.

Condensation under a Yeti coffee lid! Beer sounds good now though.

Two more. I’m struggling to remember the lens. I guess it was the 55mm f/3.5 Micro but thought I took this before I switched. Other candidate is the NAI 55/1.2 but I don’t think so. It’s bad that it was only last Friday and I already forget.

Samy, love that look from Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens.

Curtis, great to see you pics again, I agree, there's a look that just says Curtis.

Always enjoy the houseboats, Glen, Curtis. That sample quoted price gives tremendous pause though!

Ken, lovely soft image. It definitely has it's place, and for some material is one of the top choices, like your
85/1.8 H + 3t close-up achromat on Z6 post.

Watch out Regina. If you thought we were bad before the head devil showed up, you're really gonna get it now. Just look at the temptation posts already.
