Samy - yes, the snow that was falling was dense enough to capture pretty easily.
George - the scenery is amazing as evidenced by this pano view looking down into the Lauterbrunnen valley on a clear fresh morning. We lucked out with the blue sky day following 4-5 inches of new snow. Perfection!
I just noticed that a slightly soft image made it into the pano. Normally I shoot 2 or 3 frames at each position then select the sharpest one to go into the pano. A bad one got through my selection process.
This is the Millennium at 1.4, color balance and processing is different, I learned to not clip highlights, and years have passed. (But it is not sharpened)
Disclaimer, not a test, I do not do tests.
Still not the same. These old MF lenses are a work of art, no cheap plastic feel to them. 105 AI or AI-S f/2.5 is a nice lens and has a great history. I'm sure you've seen the NG cover photo of "Afghan Girl"
Colin, those are exquisite panoramas, thank you for showing us!
You must like the color balance with the strong blue light from the open sky, wonder what they would look like with shadow corrected color balance.
The blueness is in part due to the Nikon circular polarizer that I used.
You can see the slight banding where the images overlapped. IIRC then I would have used a grad filter in LR to darken the sky to reflect the way I saw it on the day.

Nice Serge! They are incredible lenses. I love the 5cm/2. You should look for a Nicca hood for it. Would look great on the Fuji

Thanks, George.
I found a generic vented lens hood that works fine but unfortunately only available in black. Added a protective 40.5mm NC filter which Nikon manufactured for the 1 lenses that fit perfectly.
Question guys i traded my D810 In for a D850 yeahhhhhhhh baby, my question is can these old MF lenses resolve 45 mp, am i going to get full resolving power ?. I know even some of todays lenses cant resolve 45mp. Tradied the D810 for 850 because rear tilt screen, 4k video and well its the best dslr ever made.
- Low sensitivity black and white film can already reach about 50 Megapixel of resolution, or rather the equivalent, on small format. Thus even old lenses had to be prepared to handle such high resolution.
- You are comparing D810 and D850. The D810 has 36 megapixel resolution, the D850 has 45 Megapixel resolution. Thats 7360 × 4912 vs 8256 × 5504. The actual difference in resolution is ~10%. Good luck ever being able to see the difference in resolution in any image. You simply wont.
I also would like to point out that most photographers consider themselves foremost artists and thus actually want expression, not resolution. For example Leica lenses are famous, but they've never been excessively sharp. Thats because they render so rich.
You guessed it - another 50/2 HC pano.
This one from the Eiger Express just after boarding it in Grindelwald.
A 15-minute cable-car ride transports you from the Grindelwald Terminal at 937 m above sea level to the Eigergletscher station at 2328 m. The cable car ride is 6,483 m (~4 miles) long.
