Here's another lens that works well with tubes, the 85mm f/1.8 HC on a D800.
Another individual among hundreds of these Stonecrop plants growing on a sheer cliff.

Thanks Rafael. I am crazy about the modified TC-16a. With tens of millions of manual focus F mount lenses out there, and 35+ years having passed - just imagine what Nikon could make of it's own modified TC's to add AF to MF lenses. (Still hunting for one suitable spring to have another go at my third tc-16a.)

James gets the best results with the TC-16a that I have ever seen. It is not the tool, it is James.
With Photoshop you can add painting treatments as layers and further adjust things to taste. The possibilities are endless. I generally prefer just a hint of painterly effect.
I have owned a mint 35-200mm for a long time and not used it much. saw it being used here, so now it gets work as a San Diego bay portable when the 50-300mm 4.5 ED is too much.
So I took the lens to to cruising grand. Weird hot day. Strong sun but odd colors, there was a fire in Poway.
Did not like the photos, loved being able to frame without dancing around people, photos were technically ok but no magic.
