Another developed in Neo. Snow in April. we're supposed to get a couple of inches, oh joy! Taken with the 55/1.2 sc. Looks a tad soft on the lettering.

Very nice, Leighton! Do you have the 55 1.2 on a cropped Fuji? With what adapter? I love this rendering.
I have an X100V and it will never render like this I'm really lusting for an X-Pro3, and would love it more if I could adapt my MFNG's to it.

Hi Joseph, nice to see you and thanks.

Yes, my 55mm is mounted on my Fuji X-S10 with the Zhongyi Turbo Lens Adapter which makes my 55mm, 60mm. I hope you can get the X-Pro3. I'd like to have the X100V, but it just doesn't suit my style.

Catching up on the weekend posts.

Always enjoy Colin's IR. Looks like London warmed up really nicely.

Serge, thanks for sharing the Siena Cathedral. I'm not sure we never made it to the inside when we were there but your shots bring back good memories.

Samy, wild bokeh with that 5cm f2 HC LTM. Great colors and concept with the shot!

Good coverage of "decay" George. Love the tones you are producing here.

Leighton, that snow made it up here too but it's all melted now. Good rendering with that 55mm. I actually purchased Luminar 4.0, should have known better; I'm a Lightroom person. There were some interesting options, but it was slow, and I'm not a fan of being abandoned when they change versions. I did not find the RAW conversion to do anything really special.

Ray,
I love the atmosphere of your fog images - these, and the ones on the MF shooters shooting AF thread.

How long ago was Luminar 4?

Yes, I've been a LR user for years and know it like the back of my hand. But as little as I'm shooting these days, it seems a waste to pay that monthly subscription.

I purchased it July 2020. There are some useful tools, though some of the AI stuff does not process things to my liking and I end up using very little of it. It's almost like a package of presets with some AI to supposedly apply some of the effects intelligently, but I'm guessing that it's really just presets that have been informed by AI prior to creating the presets, and the strength sliders perhaps might not be linear. Of course, all of that is purely conjecture on my part based on the limited experience I have with the software. If you wait for a sale of offer, it's not too bad for a perpetual license, though if I was using it for RAW conversion or processing I'd just rather use Nikon's free software. Not sure how Fuji's software compares though.

Saw one of your posts about still not being 100%, wishing you a full 100% recovery!

Leighton,

Do yourself a favor and check out On1 Photo Raw before you settle on Neo. I haven't used Neo, but I have used several of their products in the past. The problem with Skylum (the creator of Neo) is that they are constantly changing direction and constantly trying to sell you something.

Here is my history with Skylum products:
Luminar 2018
Photolemur 2
Luminar 3
Luminar Flex
Photolemur 3

After that, I gave up. It seemed to me that they would make a product that never lived up to the hype. I would then buy the next product that was supposed to offer features that the previous one promised, but never delivered. They released and I purchased all of these in approximately a 2-year time period. I finally gave up and went to Capture One for a while back when you could buy the "Fuji only" version. I loved the software, but it's more expensive than the LR/PS subscription if you like to upgrade each year. I finally succumbed to the Adobe subscription for LR/PS. I didn't like the subscription model, though, and switched to On1. I've been very happy with their product. There are plenty of online tutorials and it's a good, robust piece of software.

Thanks Ray and Scott for your input. I tried On1 and liked it and the Fuji software isn't anything to write home about. I also hate subscriptions, thus my looking into something with a perpetual license. I have narrowed it down to Luminar Neo or On1. I have run out of trial days on On1, so for now, it's Neo.

Here's another one with Luminar Neo.

Leighton,
There are other image editors that are available. I use linux often, and the imaging solutions there also have windows and mac os versions. Gimp is almost a complete photoshop replacement, and Darktable is an almost complete Lightroom replacement - both have windows and mac os versions. These are far more sophisticated than on1, and have a bit of a learning curve, but are free. Another less involved solution are both owned by Corel. Aftershot pro v3 is a bit like Lightroom and photoshop blended, but I think it may be linux and windows only - not sure (the 2nd is Paintshop pro - a bit like NEO with ai). I know of many many other programs that I know pros use regularly. Photo Mechanic, Acdsee is another popular one...not trying to confuse the issue, just trying to offer options. Each of them started out with one really strong feature, and then over the years mature into serious well rounded image editors. Capture One was just strong at RAW files, On1 purchased Genuine Fractals resizing code, Acdsee made the fastest thumbnails etc.

Edit: I imported a RAF file from the Fuji I used to own and it is very limited editing availalbe. So probably want to pass... Just basics like exposure, contrast, brightness... Highlight recovery, shadow fill, clarity and others grayed out.

Another free option is the Hasselblad Phocus software. I have never tried it with other camera raw files, but the Mac version supports all RAW files that Apple supports. Windows version only supports Hasselblad files.

There appear to be limitations with some features editing other RAW files.

For free it may be worth your time to check it out.

From the user manual...

"The Mac platform allows file viewing and limited editing of not only TIFF, JPEG, DNG and PNG files for example, but also more than 150 third-party digital cameras, including Canon, Nikon, Leaf, Leica, Sony, Fuji, Olympus etc."

Leighton, good to hear that ON1 is strong enough to make your finalist list. Way back when I tried them there were way too many program crashes on a Windows 10 machine.

A B&W with the 50-135. I find some trees rather photogenic in their form without leaves when I can get a clear backdrop that shows them off.

Yea, I've tried them all. I like Capture One, but when they switched to all pro versions, the price went up more than I wanted to spend.

One thing I have found out is Adobe Bridge (which is free) works really well with Luminar as a DAM substitute. You can set bridge to open in Luminar as the default which makes it even easier.

You learn something new every day. I did not know Adobe was giving away Bridge. I have been a fan of Bridge since version 1 in CS2. I still use Bridge 5.7 for it's excellent scripting - though the ACR module is out of date. Thanks for the info.

Ray,
On1 did a mea culpa on their suite years ago. I had purchased v6, and it seemed to be mainly a collection of presets - very slow, and prone to crashes. Later, I got an email offering me the full v10.5 suite for free. I recently downloaded it again to compare their purchased and renamed "resize" (from Genuine Fractals) to Lightroom's builtin resize export module and Topaz's Gigapixel. Anyway, You can get v10.5 from their site and just use your old serial number. Adobe never did that - even when they sold unusable versions of Photoshop 3 - you had to pay for the update to v3.05 so it would run.
