Leighton,
Topaz's Sharpen AI was the problem. It is very much like Piccure+ (which is no longer supported) in using the superior transistor density of GPU's versus CPU to crunch numbers very quickly. I am doing micro-corrections on sharpness and noise in an attempt to get a more clean image. By clean I am referring to the appearance of a continuous tone photograph, and not a series of dots. Or, I am trying make the pointillism of Georges Seurat appear to be painted with brush strokes instead dots.
I pray your kidney problems can be resolved soon. Nephrologist are the detectives of the medical world, and tend to be extremely smart IMO.

We escaped Hong Kong's communist inspired covid nonsense and are here in Aus for the next 4-5 months. So nice to feel normal again!!!
Took my Bronica and Nikon lenses with me and these are the first images I've processed. Took these at one of our Favourite beaches here ... Henley Beach. All taken with my Bronica EC-TL and the Nikkor-HC 75/2.8
Found a really nice lab over here to develop the negs and even sent all my scanning equipment over via FedEx
I thought I would make a visual aid to demonstrate what I am doing to the iso 320-800 D7200 files.
Here is a 67% crop (100% was too large, and just made the noise look even worse) of a jpg that was imaged in Lightroom from the raw nef file. The LR adjustment that made the noise more apparent was upping exposure +1.9 stops (I consider anything over 2 stops extreme even though LR will allow 4 stops of correction). You would be correct in thinking that just nailing the exposure would lower the noise considerably. However, I almost never shoot auto exposure, and light conditions were changing from bright direct sunlight to medium bright overcast. (as in this example) I do watch the meter and adjust ISO and shutter speed as fast as I can, but little birds don't perch very long.
The straight from Lightroom raw to jpg
The 8 step processed photo using two versions of Photoshop, plugins, and a custom action I wrote
This is both images sandwiched together with windows cut out to show the underlaying layer.

Good to see you and nice to see you using the D2X. Not sure when we saw that camera represented here last. Love the tones of the image as well.
Thank you, Leighton. I read more than I post these days, hopefully that will change when work slows down a bit. I still alternate between my D200, D2X, and D700 on hikes. I also use my Df and D800 for photoshoots.
Those old cameras/lenses have a special feel/look to them that I just cannot get over
Really nice shot George and it looks like you are geared up for the season. Some trout fishing coming up?
Trout season (coastal sea run Brown trout) full on here but I haven't hade the time yet. Hope I'll make it out soon...

Getting ready for the spring season. Loaded some fresh line.
DF w/ EL-NIKKOR 135/5.6 on the PB-4 Bellows. Swung the lens right to isolate the focus a little bit.
Saw this one a bit a lter also. When I was a kid I used a wooden stick a line, a hook with a worm or a fly on it in a small creek. Caught a lot of trots with it 😁

I have been missing in action the last couple weeks, but catching up with the like button. Great shots folks!
I had to send my computer off for repair and I really don't like browsing on a phone. So took time to redo my home office and continue getting ready for the spring fishing season.
I have all my gear ready to go and resupplied the fly tying gear and getting back in the groove of making some flies.
If the flies in the shot below look a little strange, it is because they are basically reversed from what a traditional "western" style fly would be. The hackles are facing forward in these away from the hook point. These are in the tradition of Japanese tenkara flies.
If you have not tried tenkara fishing, I highly recommend it. No reel. Just rod, line and fly.
Nice to see so many on the thread lately! Good to see some from you Curtis, hope all is well with you.
I was supposed to share some shots today from my trip up north on ski/snowboard vacay..Turns out I cant log in to my flickr account, also my computer are getting really slow, need some upgrading soon. I'll try later this week again
Right now I am enjoying just fishing in nearby ponds. Panfish, small bass. The hatchery supported trout season opens the first Saturday in April. I plan on taking a few days off of work in April and going during the week when it is quiet on the streams.
If the stars align, I am going to try my big fly rig on some Striped Bass when they start coming up river. Tying some some red and white bucktail clouser minnows for those. The window is narrow but I hope to get a day and go.
