Jay. Incredible shot. I have wondered how the 35/1.4 would do with astrophotography.
But of course 99.9% is what is behind the camera. Would love to know the behind the scenes on that.

This was one of a series I did to test some old mf lenses.
The previous 35mm view was composed of 19 sub frames exposed at 30 seconds, f/2.8 with the D810 set to 1250 ISO
These were manually stacked in PS and a median stack mode applied. Corners look pretty bad but overall it seemed OK in a pictorial sense.
There were a few surprises, the 55mm f/1.2 was better than the 35mm f/1.4 when stopped down to f/2.8, and likewise my 85mm f/1.4 and 105mm f/2.5 were good when stopped down a bit.
Dreadful is a good description of results from my 24mm AI and a plastic 24mm f/2.8 AF, they must be the same optical formula to both have similar wretched corners.
Here is a similar treatment of the W end of Scorpius with the 105mm showing Antares and its attendant nebulosity along with M4, M80, Rho Ophiuchus region, numerous Barnard dark nebula and Jupiter the brightest 'star' off to the right.

Ialso own a unmodified tC16a, for my F4, and a modified one for the D series cameras. You are more courageous than I in attempting this modification.
I should test it with my 300mm 4.5 ED non-IF
Rafael, my mod TC16A worked fine with the 300/4.5 ED, I suppose you will not be unhappy:

Great info Jay. Thanks!
IF I can ever find a clear night when I am up in Virginia with dark skies I am going to try some this winter. But we are in for a 3rd weekend in a row for snow. Good for other things but not deep sky photography
Baltimore auto show today. Nothing exciting in the new models, but there were a lot of classics and private cars that were more interesting. Z6 and 24 2.8 AIS
The kid sitting in the chair was 15. He doesn't have a regular license yet but drives this dragster (is that what they are called?) at the Maryland and other race tracks. He has two engines, one goes around 90mph and the other around 114mph if I remember correctly. Very polite youngster!

Perfect for your coming snow this weekend and to haul your film gear

Yeah could set up compartments for various gear in that huge monster truck, good thinking!! However, I don't think the truck would be impressed by the standard 1-2 inches of snow we get here.
Great photo's over the last few pages. Samy I'm thrilled to see car shows from you!
Now for something serious. It's supposed to get int the 20's (- 3 C) by Sunday and I'm not prepared for artic weather! Did you know yhere is not a snow plow anywhere in Florida!
Some more from the Beach and the new Vette
Ii's been a while since any rust was posted so I took care of that too.

I've also captured the perfect FLARE!
Great shots, Ken. I love the "perfect" flare in the last one.
The TC-16A doesn't seem to like being stacked with other tele-converters. Imaged quality improved very much with the 200mm f2.0 ai, and the 300mm f2.8 ais. For this test just the 200mm was used, but on an old well worn D300 that has been acting strange. I tracked it down to a bad battery, and possibly a corrupted firmware flash from years ago. These files metadata show both 2007 creation dates, and 2022 copyright dates, because the camera was losing it's setup data.
A rare nice sunset in Winter and even more rare is the time to get out and use a classic long lens.
People thought I was a "professional" with such a big (really it's not) lens on a tripod.

Yikes! It looks like a pulse of radiation is about to engulf you.
Were you using a beer glass for a lens filter
Which lens were you using?

Samy the one I ordered is a convertible. Its a 2023 and expect to get in in the fall. The Colt is going to be a red mist with a camel interior. Should look nice and go fast. 🏎
This week, I thought I'll use my downtime to send some things to Nikon for needed service and repairs. I learned that D700 (48k shutter activations) is end of life and there are no spare parts anymore. The front dial is slipping, which seems a known issue. It's a bit of a bummer that it cannot be sorted out anymore. D300s' (with 93k shutter activations) is nice and notchy but has a non-functioning WB button. I guess both are now firmly on the use until they die phase of their lives. At least D700 bodies are plenty on the market.
D5500 has loose rubber all over. Still enjoying current support. Great to have that sorted out. I love it.
Me? I'm still being sorted out. Stitches came off on Thursday. Neurosurgeon seems too positive. I feel good but still on orders to take it very easy. Not driving still. Still wearing neck support when taking the recommended walks, sleeping, using a camera or computer. Lots of physio exercises as Laura promised. Four more weeks.
Back to regular programming ...
... It's been a while since I shot this lens. Light enough for use with Df under the circumstances. Results are quite satisfying.
Colin it’s my favorite travel lens, the 35-200 shot wide open at 35mm. I like it’s versatility and it’s macro. Not a great lens but a good lens for most everything I’ll encounter. Landscapes, car shows, or macro use it does fairly well.
I will say the flare caught me by surprise.

Jay, awesome photos of the starry skies and terrific work in the processing department.
Jose, excellent photos of the feathered friends.
Ken, great captures specially the sunset. The circular flare looks like the entry to some sort of vortex.
Ray, great photograph the old timer icy bridge.
John, beautiful views from the Pacific Northwest.
Tomorrow will put on the Bermuda shorts and take some snow pics. It is just to darn windy today.
Visited a small wine making operation and
leaving, this lad walks up with cigarette in hand asks for some fire. I was about to light the smoke and he steps back and wants a photo taken. This is one very cool character:
