I enjoyed the 300mm f2.8 AIS. It’s great but that lens is heavy. If I don’t have time for the tripod, I would pick up something lighter to take with me. The 300mm f4.5 or the 400mm f5.6 non-IF ED will always be my first option.

Hi guys
What about nikon nikkor 300mm f / 2.8 ai-s ?
Something to have ? I look at the older Ai-s with the nearest close limit 4 meters the newer version is 3m or 10 feet ? Anything else that sets these apart? optical? and has anyone tried it on Sony E bodys
I was close to buying a Nikon 300mm f / 4.5 ED-IF AI-s the other day but unfortunately it was sold ;(
Wondering if I should buy some Nikon lenes again
I'm just wondering if my eyes still works well for MF

I echo what Chuong says. I have an older 2.8 with the built in hood. Good lens but Heavy and almost always requires a monopod/tripod. Has chromatic aberration wide open (easy to correct in post). But unless I just absolutely need that extra light or must have bokeh, I most often use the 300/4.5 or 400/5.6. So much lighter and great image quality at those apertures. Of course f/2.8 is f/2.8

The night before Halloween... A fire in the pit, carving pumpkins and listening to campfire tales.
Had to use the Nocturnal lens
My son has taken over the pumpkin carving responsibility. I am sitting back and enjoying.
By the way, if you enjoy spooky campfire stories, you have to check out the Camp Monsters podcast by REI. Perfect for a Halloween night. Or any night by a fire for that matter
That would be nice. I have to admit that I also like the FM2.
I didn’t get to buy these film cameras when I was in my 20’s so I am taking it all in

What a beauty! George is right, don't turn your back. Wouldn't it be great if Nikon came out with a digital version EXACTLY like the F3 with the the F-mount?

Oh you youngsters...I bought the F3 brand new when it first came out. Damn I'm old.
I just bought an F3 too, I sat it next to my Df when if arrived and was like if only Nikon would make a digital version. I had one about 8 years ago and sold it and have since regretted that decision, I'm glad I have another one!

Congrats on the F3 Chuong!
I hope that if Nikon ever makes a Zf, it takes after the F3. Bonus points if it can mount a MD4, or if the grip is modeled after it.

I know I regretted selling mine, but I don't regret the reason. Traded it at our local camera store at the time to buy a VHS recorder to video our first daughters entrance to the world. I now have video of her in the hospital on day one, circa 1988.
John,
These are really sharp. I had no idea Seattle had purchased Fort Worth Texas' Alexander Calder's "Eagle", nor that they had a sculpture park. Is that Madison on the far right? I can't quite figure out where the view is - I'm thinking Pike's street is a little right of center in image #2>

Been a while. Especially with the 300/4.5 ED AI.
Had it out just for fun on a sunny late afternoon.
f/5.6 except for the bird shot which was wide open.
This lens is still really really good to excellent at 42MP on a full frame sensor.
