George -3 more lenses?!! that's like pushing smack on a junkie. Actually, I'm not tempted by the slower 5cm, two 5cm lenses are enough for anyone, well, except Rafael. 2.8cm is an awkward focal length for me. But I must confess, I have a serious yen for the 8.5cm. A very serious yen. I found one in S mount and I almost did it, but I'm very happy with the 10.5cm .......for now.
See, I really have to get off this thread.
Rafael - that dumpster is bigger than my apartment. That's not a joke. Put in a bathroom and I'd move in tomorrow.
Leighton - the 55mm is not wide open in that shot is it? Yes, I think nikki deserves a spin, after all if the XS-10 doesn't do right by nikki it has to go back.

Get the 8.5cm/2 in LTM mount, that way you can use it on a Leica. Trust me, you will not regret getting that lens. LTM version with a Rayqual, Voigtlander or Leica LTM to M adapter will give you many more adapting options for mirrorless than the S mount. Unless you shoot a Nikon S film camera. They you will need both versions

Ben,
Here are 3 versions of the 28mm/2.8cm f/3.5. F mount, S mount and LTM. You can't beat the size of the LTM.

I will attest to that. Ben's been bugging me about the 8.5cm. I really did not push it on him, just made some useful suggestions. Wait, what did Ben call some of us
On a more serious note, I do have the 5cm 3.5 but haven't formed any special bond with it yet. Maybe I need to try it some more.
Ben, I think the 8.5cm and the 10.5cm f2.5 will suit your style of shooting into the dark spaces of Rome.
I have had very good luck with my 5cm/3.5, especially for black and white.
Ben - it may be slower, but you can't have too many nifty-fifty lenses. Plus it looks so good and small and is a breeze to work on and CLA. But it may look a little funky on that Canon
Of course, me pushing you Ben is totally tongue in cheek and having fun. Just channeling my inner Curtis and the spirit of the thread

No, I think it was 5.6. I'll get Nikki out of the house soon.

There's something satisfying about spending Ben's money.

The LTMs are beautiful George, really beautiful. For me, 28 isn't wide enough. I had the 28mm f3.5 in F mount (also the f2 (both versions and the f2.8) but I hardly used them. Philippe is a master with the 28mm f2.8 and I tried to copy him but it never worked for me. I'd certainly be tempted by something wider if it existed, say a 20 or 24. I was looking at a 21 or 25mm Zeiss distagon in Leica mount. I had the 25 and it was wonderful (I wish I knew what possessed me to sell all those lenses). They're also very small and the adapter is tiny for Canon R or Nikon Z.
I definitely see an 8,5cm in my future, maybe even a 13,5cm.
As for pushing - push away George, I love gear talk, I just wish I had more resistance.

If I ever find the time, I'll have to gather the herd for a group shot to help you out....

Steve - that must have been quite a fall to knock out the lens mount, especially on a DSLR. Down to one camera huh? Maybe it's time for a Canon?
Colin's right, great pic of the buzzard.
Jay - that looks a lot like summer to me?
I've really enjoyed being back this time but I have got to get off this thread before I end up in the poor house. These are the lenses I've bought in the last few weeks. I obviously have a problem and this thread is enabling it.
I had all these lenses before except the 3.5cm. I sold them and now, after being back here, I've re-bought them. I want to blame Curtis but he's not around.
CURTIS I'm begging you, COME BACK, say something about kit building and then I can curse you and absolve myself.
On a technical note, I've found that these lenses are noticeably different to the ones I had before. For example, I never much liked the10,5cm, it was a bit fuzzy and not as good as the AI and AIS versions I had. But this one is so sharp and contrasty. The 5cm f2 was one of my favourites, but I'm finding this one to be pretty useless before about f4. Maybe some of the differences can be explained by the fact that I was using them on the Leica M10 and the Sony A9 and now I'm using them on the Canon. But I suspect that sample variation plays a much greater role than I'd ever realised.
Only thing I really suffered was a knock to my self-esteem and pride, and a little bruise.
The lens mounted was a 300mm f2.8 and TC-20 so plenty of leverage on the lens mount
I was carrying it over the shoulder like a bandalero so should have been safe except for me falling
So left with a D810 for now. Though the lenses still work
As for Bruni ....... how very dare you suggest the C word to me ....... I am pure as the driven slush and am having a meltdown now at the very mention of the C word.
Just a taste of last nights visitors to the garden using the 180mm 2.8

So...the "C word" is worse than the F word?
Good point Leighton.
But when someone encourages me to switch to the other big manufacturer, then it is wrong on many levels
You have never, to my knowledge, tried to convince someone that their next purchase should go agains all their principles. And deviate from the faith of Nikon.
Perhaps I'm just too pure .... (I'm not really) I'll just live and let live !!
