I feel as if I have to balance Ben's 'darkness' with some IR 'lightness'

Used my new Kaiser FilmCopy negative holder with 6x9 AN glass/flat glass inserts which work well for scanning an entire 35mm neg.

This place is one of the weirdest places in HK ... an abandoned theme park on an island that's just been rotting away since 2006. Makes for some interesting shots though.

Thanks, Ray. I'm brand new to IR photography. This is only the 2nd time I've used the camera since I had it converted. I can't focus the camera through the viewfinder by looking at the subject. I use the green dot for focusing and, so far, it nails focus every time. I haven't tried anything with shallow depth of field, yet. This one was shot at f8. It may have been out of focus if I had shot wide open. I'll have to do some experimenting to see how accurate the green dot focusing really is.

Scott,
Focusing will depend on whether your camera had the focus adjusted to cater for the IR shift.
My D7100 did (physical separation of the sensor PCB from its original mount using spacer washers) but I still need to dial in a manual focus shift on some lenses. I use a combo of what I see and the green dot. I have leant what works best for my goto IR lenses. The 200/4 requires most compensation and I do that by 'feel' now.

You have all the elements for an IR photograph - fluffy clouds, strong sunlight, water, foliage, strong subject matter and most importantly a photographer with a good eye. Low humidity is another beneficial element. How was it when you took the image?

IR photo of the Lady Jane in Brunswick, GA. The only lens I had with me was the Nikkor-O 35/2 on a crop sensor (D70 converted to IR). The lens wasn't wide enough to get the entire boat, so I shot a series of 12 shots vertically and combined them in Microsoft ICE.

Love this Scott. Great job stitching it all together. I wonder if MS ICE will work on a Mac?

Couple more comments. Colin helped me to see the dummies, and I concur with his comments. Nice work!

Scott, Lady Jane is nicely captured. I see you used an IR converted D70, which I've just started toying with that idea. Then I tried to shoot MF on a DSLR (albeit indoors) after three months on a mirrorless, and experienced terrible focus fail! I wonder how cheaply I can get a used IR converted mirrorless.

Hmmm, a green White, doesn't compute.

I should have mentioned that my camera was calibrated for IR photography. Specifically, it was adjusted for the Nikon 18-55mm kit lens that comes with the D70. The only manual focus lens I have tried so far is the 35/2. Assuming we have nice weather next weekend, I plan to spend a little time getting to know the camera with a few different MF lenses.

Coastal Georgia is usually very high in humidity, but as the fall approaches, the humidity drops. Thankfully, it was not very humid when I took this photo. I'm guessing that it was around 50%. During the hot summer months, the humidity is often in the upper 90% range.

Thanks for the pointers. I can definitely use all the help I can get!

Thanks, Leighton. Microsoft ICE only works on PCs. Unfortunately, MS has discontinued the program and no longer provides a download for the software. They never officially supported the software, but I've never had a problem with it, so no problem for me.

Too bad, seemed to work great for you. I'm sure I can find an app for my Mac.

What! It's a really small world. He wouldn't have guessed that South Africans will have access to the picture before him. Sharks never fail to disappoint me though.

Scott, Colin - loving the IR. Colin, I wouldn't call that a "light" pic. The black sky and the weird tones makes it quite dark to me. And you think I'm dark, have you seen Huss's pic of the truck, a black truck against a dark background. I can't see a thing - wonderful.

Philippe - I love how you've captured that moment where she's taking a long drag on the cigarette. You can almost taste it.

Leighton,
One of the first auto photo stitching programs, and still free is Autostitch. Works on mac and win
http://matthewalunbrown.com/autostitch/autostitch.html

If you have photoshop - then you already have the software you need using the photo merge module.

Priceless expression on the little kid longingly looking at the bike. So good.

Good to see health and safety at play with the chain guard - no trapped toes between the chain and the chain ring. Us oldies have all been there, right? Lack of a skid lid is a more worrying trait though.
If anyone can make cycle helmets cool then surely the Italians can.......

As for the "80% light is dark to you" comment - maybe I need to go and search thru the archive for a better example.

Had to try some of this dark processing. Still too much light it seems from reading Ben and other's comments, but have to start somewhere.
