OKAY Reagan I'll have to post some from the Gulf Coast. Haven't seen an iguana either but I suspect they are around. Went to Long Boat Key and looked at a Condo … Yankees have invaded, fleeing from the Northern States where lockdowns are a way of life. Price are really high so don't ask me why we were looking!!
Anyway people travelling here are amazed at the whole area. It's not mandatory to mask in most places and social distancing is asked but not enforced. I think Florida has the right approach in combatting this virus,
First of all lunch with 5-0 at the sandwich shop. That too is no longer cheap! Using the 28 3.5mm chipped lens. Condo shots to follow,
Jim's newspaper building photos reminded me of industries that were historical to the area that have been long closed and torn down. However some are being restored and turned into shops or apartments. While it will never replace the jobs lost, at least the buildings are being used for another purpose and not all lost.
I am off of work today and decided to ride out and shoot one of these buildings before the rain sets in again. The one I decided to try was an old textile building that has just been converted into lofts. Actually restoration is still under way.
My connection to this building goes back 34 years ago to my first job out of the Navy with a communications company. One of my first assignments was to install a trunked radio system and install an antenna on this building. Looking closer at the picture, there is still an antenna in the location, but I am sure it is not the same one I installed
Anyway, I wanted to get a shot from the side of the building along the river. I remembered a kayak access spot and went there to set up. Since today is damp, overcast with steady drizzle/mist and the river is swollen and muddy from all the rain this year, black and white was really the only way to go. I wanted to blur the water movement and used a B+W ND 3.0 filter to get a long exposure.
This was also a test run of a Nikkor 65mm f/4 large format lens that I recently got. I forgot the step up ring for the filter so I had to handhold it against the lens during the exposure. So perhaps the picture could be a little sharper.
Kit used - the GFX 50R on the Cambo Actus rig, Nikkor-SW 65mm f/4 @ f/16. 10mm rear rise to keep perspective and get the smoke stack well within the frame. 30sec exposure ISO 100
Thanks for sharing your 8x10-shot, Samy. The tonality is amazing and a great match for the subject.
James, I feel like I have seen your sad images from the dying paper before. I still shoot for local/regional papers and it's hard too watch the editorial offices shrink over the years (sorry for my poor english).
That's a really interesting combination of LF-lens and modern digital camera, George. I like old-fashioned factory-buildings a lot and your picture captured this building style in a beautiful fashion.
And thanks to Reagan and Ken for the colorful images from the cozy (?) South.

Mask are still pretty much required here but the retail shops don't enforce it because they want your money
6 ft rule still applies but not when your in line to buy something
Georg, I know I shared the "memo" photo before, perhaps some of the others. I spent the last year culling my images from 890,000 to 350,000. I hope to image the best 100,000, and continue shooting new. I know I am on the down slope of producing images. For something different here is a lens I no longer have - it belonged to the press and i left all their equipment with them when I left like the D1X I shot these with...
35-105mm f3.5-4.5 ais (16 elements in 12 groups) 18 image manually stitched 60k pixel image - "My Hometown"
The New Press's automated paper handling storage area a 600'-700' x 4-5 story room - flooded. They failed to put any drains in the new construction of this huge room. The guy responsible for it getting flooded is the one pictured sucking about 2" of water out of the space with a 16 gallon shop vac. The owner of the construction company thought the whole episode was hilarious, and I have great portrait of him smirking as he told me about this poor guy cleaning up the mess. When I saw the space I was blown away. It literally was like stepping into M.C. Escher's "Cubis Space Division"
My other goal today was to get down to take some shots of an old railroad bridge, but as you can see below, the rising river had other plans and flooded out the trail down river.
Something for another day
Same rig, but a 3 shot pano. 12mm shift left, center, 12mm shift right. With 10mm rear fall. Mainly to test out the lens coverage with this sensor. I am happy with it

Had some fun with the battered 35/1.4 Ai on the Fuji X-Pro 1 today.
At f/4 this old lens will produce really nice „sunbursts”. And will turn small focused lightsources into „stars” too.
Many other lenses will not produce nice stars or only at f/11 or so.

The outdated Fuji-camera is able to deliver very nice results. It's use is just a bit more cumbersome compared to more recent cameras.
The beaten-up 35/1.4 Ai is at full aperture not really useable on this camera, at f/4 and f/5.6 it's very nice.
George, I'm a bit late to this but this is a stunning set of images, in my opinion. Perhaps in real life these buildings are as beautiful but I really like the image quality in here. First and last being my clear favourites.
Reagan I'm wondering if the usual Iguana Oil extraction method is by tire?

Great find Jay! Yeah, they have been doing a lot of face-lifting on it for sure. I need to go back once the weather gets better and the river goes down. Would love to go inside and see what the lofts are like.
Thanks for your kind words, Siphiwe, really much appreciated!
Jay, your colorful Florida-shot is awaking dull memories of a season called „summer” :-))
Is this „Swimming hole” a constructed pond? Like a large pool but more natural loooking?
Rafael, impressive shots from the mighty ship. Was the USS Midway the first generation of war-ships without the giant rangefinder-style distance-measuring-systems? It just crossed my mindn while looking at your images.
George, your picture of the flooded river is howing the force of the water really nice. Good to see that the SW-Nikkor is doing fine.
James, now that's a fairly large paper-storage... Thanks for sharing the story about the floof and the poor guy.
