Here in the valleys of western Montana, winters can be pretty tough. I am not talking about cold and snow - that's expected at these latitudes. However, when we get a break from the gloom of clouds etc (like Seattle), and get a "fair weather" high pressure, then the air becalms calm and we get inversions and freezing fog. It is made worse here due to the proximity of Flathead Lake. I think I posted an ice-encrusted blade of grass a few days ago. We have just come out of about a week long bout of this. It broke yesterday afternoon and I rushed out for what looked like would be a great sunset. Well, it was a dud, but the Golden Hour was magnificent.
I headed out to an area west of here above the river (Flathead River). here is a 5-shot pano with the 105 f2.5 and my Df. Also, just one of the 5 cropped to 8x10. It really shows how you can turn 105mm into something closer to 35 - 50mm.
There was still a lot of haze in the air from the week-long fog and I had to lean pretty heavily on Lightroom's dehaze function. You can still see some at the base of the mountains. The river is in a canyon a little beyond the road.
for both: Nikon Df; ISO 100; Nikkor 105mm f2.5 AIS @ f8; 1/80 s

Very sad to see my brother in a ventilator in a Miami hospital ICU due to COVID. Prognosis is not good. This is the reason I do not go out much. Photography can wait.
Please say a prayer for his health.
Today's sunrise with the 20mm 2.8 ais, not the 15mm as listed, the 15mm is too wide sometimes.

I would like to go to visit the area around Montana / Wyoming / Colorada / Utah at some point in my life for a few weeks. I follow John Crane's F6 blog and many of his road trips and shots are from around this area. Looks incredible.
Few shots from Peng Island. This time with Portra 400 & the F3HP.
24/2.8 NC & 55/1.2 SC.
This dog was the coolest dog I've met for a long time. He's a great asset to the young couple who own the cafe there. Always happy to hang out with you and chill while you're having coffee outside. This was the second place on the island that had no prices for anything ... just "donations" of whatever price you thought was OK. My wife left $100 HKD for two espressos ... around $13 USD. An effective pricing model it seems!
The second shot is a tomb on a hillside. I see these tombs quite frequently while hiking.

Hi Rafael, you are in my thoughts and hopefully your brother will recover fully.
I was going to write this yesterday as my brother was also in hospital following a hip replacement after a fall. Sadly I received a call to say that he had passed away.
He was 85 and being fed through naso-gastric tubes as he was unable to swallow and the doctors asked my sister and me for permission to insert a tube directly into his stomach. He had written a living will specifically ruling out extra-ordinary measures to prolong his life and we asked the doctors to respect his wishes. He was kept comfortable for a couple of days and went peacefully.
While it is very sad the quality of life that awaited him, had they been able to solve the problem, would have been anathema to him and we are both comfortable that we did what was best for him.
I have so many happy memories and was really privileged to have had such an amazing relationship and friendship with my half brother.
I hope that you will enjoy many more years as a family.

I lost my Uncle to Covid in Scotland last week to Covid. Below is the message I received from my Aunt after he passed. Heartbreaking.
Andy
Ian is at peace now.,.I am still so sad that the doctor put Ian in hospital to work on his kidneys... The man in the next bed had tested positive. Isolated Ian for three days sent him home...next I got s phone call to say Ian had covid...from that time we were left on our own no help and Lesley and Derek could not help.,.when he had to go back in he was in a lot of pain...I managed to see him on Sunday..Derek saw him the rest of the days and they both managed to see Ian before he lost his fight for life...the sad thing for me it was not his heart or kidneys...I had to get tested today and I am hoping all will go well for me,it has been very distressing having to be on my own for such a long time without family around..I hope all is well with you. Take care Ellen. X
